DAY #135 : Do I wish that I would have started trading in high school? No.
Yesterday, someone dear to me, whom is also a trader, messaged me and asked how great it would have been to have started trading in high school. I agreed in a general sense - but disagreed personally. It wouldn't have been good for me. There's a lot of reasons why:
1. When I was 16 (assuming that's the age we're going with here) I used to attach my self worth to how well I did in external areas. I was extremely insecure. I didn't think I was - but I was. This would not have worked with trading. Every single loss I would have made, would have resulted in a tonne of ridiculous self loathing. I would have been caught in a crazy rollercoaster of elation and devastation.
2. I wouldn't have had a good enough motivation. I was dedicated, but I would have been doing it purely for money. I was selfish and materialistic back then. The want for those things would have not been anywhere near as motivating to do the long hours and busy days, as saving the world is.
3. I wouldn't have been strong enough. I don't think I would have been able to cope with how solo the venture was. I don't think I would have been able to cope with the naysayers. I don't think I would have trusted in myself, enough to make it through. I wouldn't have had that inner fortitude to see it through. Which could have seen me give up an amazing opportunity.
4. I wouldn't have appreciated it. I wouldn't have valued it. Back then, my appreciation was extremely low comparatively to what it is now. I think I would have found success - and easily mismanaged my money. I may have become complacent. I may have become self entitled. I may have thrown it all away when I went and embarked on the personal growth endeavors that I did. (Cont in FB post: http://bit.ly/downieoliviaFB)
