The Divya Desam temple in Srivilliputtur is a Vishnu #temple situated in the Virudunagar district, around 80 km from Madurai. Apart from its magnificent #gopuram , which itself is ample reason to visit this temple, it also has a historical backstory.
This temple is built on the site of the birthplace of Andal, the ONLY female Alwar saint, from the 8th century. Folks who have a keen interest in Indian #history will know that the Alwar/Azhwars were a group of saints at the forefront of the Bhakti movement in the 8th and 9th century AD.
