❂ INVERSIONS ❂
Inversions can be scary. I used to fear that I would injure myself in the most horrific way like breaking my neck and other dramatic and unrealistic scenarios!! But I realised that if I don’t deal with this fear, I am not going to grow in my practice and my fears will continue to limit me, not only in my yoga practice but also in my life.🌱
So, I replaced my fear with curiosity. I used the wall, I fell out of the headstand many, many times (falling is ALL part of the process) and recognised that falling out is actually not so bad and breaking my neck actually seemed a bit ridic😅 I developed a deep trust in myself and my abilities. I built the strength I needed to hold myself up. Through both mental and physical work I eventually overcame the fear of inverting.
I think fear is a very normal part of the human experience, I think being uncertain and anxious about some things in life is in our make up. I think we can learn and grow through fear. But I also believe it can sometimes be self limiting, it can create false beliefs in our mind, it can hinder us from progressing forward! And I think when we learn to accept the fear, work with the fear and then eventually overcome the fear, this can be a pivotal little breakthrough moment in our life’s journey. I also believe yoga can help us release our fears as it requires us to step out of our comfort zone and delve deep into unfamiliar territory in our body and mind! Remember, we are not our fear, we are the awareness that knows our fear. 🌈🙏🏽
