The plank, if performed correctly can be a super way to build up the muscles in the core. 
The core includes a number of muscles within the ab area, the back and into the pelvic floor. 
When you perform a plank, always ensure the hands sit directly under the shoulders. They should remain here throughout the full amount of time you are planking. Ensure you keep you thighs, glutes and core right throughout. Exhale from the core and hold this position for 45-60 seconds. 
When we fatigue, technique will begin to break down, reset or break off at that point. Working on extending your planking time with correct technique over a period of weeks may be the most effective way to do this.
