Ever since I was a little girl ancient Egypt captured my heart. All I wanted for Christmas was ancient Egypt history books and how to decipher hieroglyphics. I am still able to write my name in ancient eyption (even though vowels don't exist in their writing). I got this gem from a flea market today for only $2. It's small a jar that will be put to good use for my gems and stones.

Yaşlı bir nine gördüm.
Acıdım.
Para vereyim dedim.
Kabul etmedi.
Eliyle geriye itti.

Teni Mısır'a gözleri Nil'e çaldı.

If I could go back in time to any time period I’d love to go to ancient Egypt.

We know a lot about how they lived, but there’s so much we don’t know. Like how the fuck did they quarry and cut those fucking obelisks with LAZER PRECISION. Don’t you tell me they used copper hammers. Just don’t.

At last, here are some of the treasures from the archaeology museum in Cairo.
It’s huge and chaotic but I found it completely charming. They have an embarrassment of riches and things are literally piled up in corners!!
All of the Tutankhamun artefacts are going to be moved to a new building close to the Pyramids and I can see why as they are currently displayed in a higgledy piggledy fashion and are badly lit, but I think it will also lose something in translation.
Photography is not allowed in the room with the death mask and inner sarcophagi sadly....but this should give you a flavour. Scroll through to see more.
It’s mind blowing that some of these things are 4000 years old but look like they were made yesterday!! More images from my trip to come over the next few days!

Hatshepsut surprised everyone and broke tradition when the new royal monument was unveiled, depicting her as the pharaoh. While she was the guardian to Tuthmosis III, heir to the throne but too young to rule, she named herself pharaoh and named her daughter, Neferure, Queen! She ruled for twenty years, bringing peace, prosperity and architectural advances to her kingdom, and is regarded as one of the greatest rulers of ancient Egypt. #womenshistorymonth2019 #laquintalibrary #ancientegypt

Today I was asked 'why do you have a picture of that man in the museum?', and what better opportunity to introduce you to Major William Joseph Myers (1858-1899). Myers went to Eton as a boy in 1871 to 1875 and returned as a young man to work here as the adjutant. When he was in Egypt with the army he collected a remarkable number of Egyptian artefacts, which he displayed in his house and opened for display to the boys at the school on Sundays. He returned to action in South Africa in 1899, where he was killed. He bequeathed the collection to the Head Master of Eton at the end of the 19th century.

This collection forms the heart of our Museum of Antiquities, which has been augmented over the years with a collection of objects that spanned the globe and a vast timeframe.
Major Myers' collection includes stunning examples of Egyptian blue faience, shabtis, mummy masks and even an elaborately decorated wooden coffin.
An amazing resource for teaching, discovery and fun for students and visitors, we can thank Major Myers for the Antiquities collection.

Chapel dedicated to Osiris, Eastern Wall

Seti is shown in the form and pose of Osiris, carries the crook and flail.

On the left the god Thot dressed as priest stand before him and holds the "Key of Life" to the nose of the deceased King. In his other hand he holds the lily and papyrus wands of Upper and Lower Egypt around which are twined Uraeuses wearing the crown of the South or North.

On the right Seti wears a most remarkable composite crown, showing that the deceased King was given the attributes of Amun-Ra as well as those of Osiris. The god Horus performing the purification rite on "Osiris Seti", sprinkles a lustration of natron and water from three conjoined golden vases over the King.
