Did you know that Cy Twombly served as a code breaker in the US army between 1953 and 1954? While he was a cryptographer in Washington D.C., he often traveled to New York during periods of leave.
At that time he became known for his automatic drawings. Twombly is best known for his large-scale, freely scribbled graffiti-like works. His works was often called childish to which he replied: "My line is childlike but not childish. It is very difficult to fake... to get that quality you need to project yourself into the child's line. It has to be felt." 'Untitled' mixes chalk, oil pastel and gouache on paper. It's in the collection of @mcnayart in San Antonio, Texas. Twombly was born on this day, April 25, 1928.
