Partial range squats for speed and vertical jump enhancement? ABSOLUTELY!!!! _

From “Joint-Angle Specific Strength Adaptations Influence Improvements in Power in Highly Trained Athletes” (Rhea, et al. Human Movement. 2016) — In summary given the significantly greater transfer to improvements in sprinting and jumping ability, the use of quarter squats during sports conditioning is recommended. Including quarter squats in workouts aimed at maximizing speed and jumping power can result in greater improvements in sport skills.

My man @tazz_2906 put together a solid set of these speed squats, putting out some POWER!! @trainwithpush measured these at a set average of 2286 watts per rep moving at .95 m/s, which is right in that window we want. Full depth is great for building adequate strength, which is a great foundation that all athletes MUST have, but the joint angles trained at high velocities during quarter squats are a much better option when the goal is sprinting or jumping related. Do both, at the right time for your athletes.
