Ride of my life. Part 1
I learned to ride a bike on the drive of Sandygate house in Dawlish Warren. Aged about four, I was playing at my best friends' house, he had a bike with no chain and a slope on his drive way that we could freewheel down. The drive way went down from his back door and just sloped up enough to stop us before the main road. Adam and I spent the day freewheeling down and practicing our blanace, we could even turn left by the end of the day and stay off the road, gliding around the area cars were normally parked. The following day Adam's Dad put a chain on the bike, that is the only help I remember getting from an adult to learn to ride a bike, I don't ever remember stabalizers. We would freewheel down the slope, get our feet on the pedals, turn left and then pedal around the car park. The only problem was getting Adam to stop so I could have my turn and vice versa.
My reward for learning to ride a bike was a Raleigh Boxer, the smaller version of the more popular Grifter. My first set of wheels.
Do you remember your first ride or your first set of wheels?
