📌 “Pin-Spiration” 📷 photos are both a blessing and a curse. As hair stylists, having a picture really does help us understand our clients. They say “a picture says a thousand words,” right? It’s totally true! When a client comes in and shows me an inspiration photo, it really does help identify so many things that sometimes they don’t know how to even put into words! But with that said, they can also create difficult, sometimes unachievable expectations for that appointment. Someone else did the hair in the photo... which means I don’t know what their hair type is really like, if the photo is edited, or what their color formulation was like etc. There are so many variables and the outcomes are endless. So what do I do with these photos? I use them as inspiration but I don’t duplicate! They are super inspiring and I really do feel they help my clients and I get on the same page about their hair goals. However, I am always going to be honest with you - letting you know what is realistic with YOUR hair, and what we can do to get you to that goal photo that works with YOUR hair and YOUR budget. I will not compromise the hair, I will not try to be someone I’m not. I WILL trust my instincts and I WILL do my best, and I WILL take care of your hair and make you look and feel your best, and I WILL continue being myself as an artist. I am not the same person who created the hair in that Pinterest photo. I am me, and I will always have my own artistic style. This inspiration photo is beautiful! The minute my client sent it to me I was super excited to go for it. But knowing her hair is dark and resistant to getting super light in one visit... I explained that I would do my best to achieve as close to this look as possible in one day. But we might need more than one appointment to build and get a little lighter. She fully understood, was excited, and on board. We got allllmost as light as our goal! It took 6 hours to do this full ombré with foilayage, 2 toners, and haircut. She was super happy with the result and so was I. Even though it’s not exactly like the photo, it’s close, and it has my style added 😉💁🏼♀️. She may or may not decide to add to it.. we shall see!
