A little over a year ago...I made a promise to myself..
A promise most are scared to make.... A promise that would change me.. both emotionally and physically.. I promised myself I would stop giving up on me. 
I would start taking care of my physical and emotional health.. as they go hand in hand.. and I would not allow any excuses to get in my way... No one was going to do this for me.. and many wouldn’t fully understand. 
Yes it was hard.. it still is... I wanted instant results.. I hated how I felt and looked.. but I had to start and I wasn’t going to quit... I attempted various different workouts...slowly cleaned up what I thought was a healthy vegan diet.. I found what I love... exercise programs I can do from home.. that keep challenging me.. and new ones constantly coming out...superfoods that provide amazing nutritional support..,and supplements that help me power through my workouts.. and I feel amazing. 
I did not quit... I will not quit.. A year later I’m asked if I’m still “eating” that way and working out? Of course I am..this is a lifestyle!! To be clear.. yes I am vegan and no I don’t eat kale all day 😂... My message to you... if you are reading this.. and find yourself feeling how I did.. lost.. depressed.. sad.. questioning how you let yourself go... just remind yourself.. you can always start over.. or start again... life happens.. but you have to decide you are worth it... and you have to take the leap to make the change... it’s not going to happen for you...you deserve to feel good about yourself.....psst... Strength training really doesn’t require any extra equipment and it can be done practically anywhere. Keep it simple - start tightening your core with plank, either forearm plank or full plank (which I’m demonstrating). The goal is to complete 2-3 planks, holding each for 1 minute with proper form (glutes tucked, belly button pulling to the sky, body in a straight line from head to heels). If you’ve never done a plank before, start with 10 seconds and build from there. If you start to feel the exercise in your back, then you’ve lost form and plank is over. Start again and push yourself to hold the form for just a second longer the next time. It’s all about maintaining proper form for longer periods of time!

And because plank works the core, you could make it part of your every day routine (or at least every other day) - try it before you shower or after you brush your teeth. For the past 8 weeks I have been cutting (deliberately trying to lose weight). My goal is to lose weight but still build lean muscle. ⁣⁣

1️⃣Increase your current protein intake ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This will help with keep you full while you are in a deficit and also helps prevent your muscle tissue from breaking down.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2️⃣Lifting weights⁣ ⁣⁣
Doing compound movements such as deadlifts and squats, barbell row, presses training in the 5-8 rep range. Also increasing the amount of weights I use each week to help build muscle. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
3️⃣Eating more nutrient dense foods. ⁣⁣ Foods that are more nutrients dense tend to have fewer calories in it. Lean protein, healthy fats,and complex carbs have been what I have been incorporating more into my diet. ⁣⁣

It’s a new week - time to add another healthy action item to your life: Add Strength Training to Your Workout. Strength training not only makes us stronger and leaner, but it also strengthens our joints and bones (so important as we age) and improves metabolic rate (increasing calorie burn). Besides - wouldn’t you like to be strong enough to open a jar at any age?

There are many different ways to incorporate strength training into your workouts (and I’ll share some of my favorites this week), but at a minimum shoot for 2-3 20-30-minute sessions per week. Before we begin, you do not need to count calories to lose fat. Regardless of whether or not you count, if you want to lose fat you must be in a calorie deficit. You can do it by eating fewer carbs, fewer fats, intermittent fasting, keto, weight watchers, blah blah blah. Doesn't matter as long as you're in a calorie deficit.

If you do decide to count, you don't need to eat the same number of calories every day. I actually prefer cycling calories to eat less on some days & more on others. This way you can strategically eat more when you're out with friends, going to parties, etc. And less when you're doing your own thing and able to stick to your "normal" diet.

The cool part is you have options. And you can choose whichever one works best for you.

THE STRAIGHT DEFICIT is not a cycling method. It's just a simple, straight forward calorie allotment you eat daily. So let's say your maintenance cals are 2000, you might eat 1500/day to lose fat over time. You don't get high/low days but it is very simple & takes a lot of thought out of the equation.

THE ALTERNATE DEFICIT is a cyclical method where you alternate high/low days. If you do the math, the weekly total here is exactly the same as the straight deficit. Main difference is some days you eat low cal and others you eat high which gives you more leeway & the ability to have more diet breaks.

THE WEEKEND WARRIOR DEFICIT is what many of my Inner Circle Members choose because it gives you the most freedom on the weekends. Basically, you eat low cal during the week and relatively high over the weekend. It's not magical or special..just a strategic way to structure your diet to make things fit your schedule better so you can be more consistent.

Important note - each method adds up to the same weekly total (10,500 cals) and would result in the same amount of fat loss. The key is to do what works best for YOU.
