I remember exactly when I committed to my goals. We used to take walks as a family after dinner. My older sons (only 7 & 5 then) had new bikes, and were ranging further away from us. I had a choice: either slow them down, or get strong enough to keep up!

I want to help other dads make their own choice to grow more fit with their families. This is important to me, because it lets us do more as a family, and it lets us set the example our children will grow into. We need to be fit for ourselves, and to help our kids learn how to reach their own goals.

I emphasize functional fitness to protect and enhance your body, to improve your longevity, and keep you active as your family grows.

I believe it's important to address our #asymmetries. I had a reconstructed #shoulder back in 2010. While I've come a long way since then and am much stronger now, it doesn't change the fact that the shoulder is structurally compromised. I suffered a grade-3 separation in a ski accident and almost completely tore three #ligaments that connect the #clavicle to the #scapula. I now have titanium and cadaver in that shoulder. Due to the nature of the injury, the head of my #humerus naturally collapses forward. I'm continuing to work on strengthening the surrounding structure. I just did this #variation of this exercise for the first time recently and found it tremendously challenging! Not only does it address #strengthening the #posterior #shouldercapsule, but it also works on #shouldergirdlebility on the opposite side and works the #obliques for #spinalrotation.

While I know PR’s are going to slow down the heavier my maxes get, I am still going to celebrate each and every one. Cliche transformation Tuesday post featuring squats today! First video is me hitting 230 for 2, at competition depth when my max is 235. Second video is last August, trying to hit 235 for 1. I hated squats then and now I love them. It’s my own fault that progress has been slow since last year but since the beginning of this year, I have invested my time, sweat and energy into my consistency at the gym as well as my nutrition. Excited to test my maxes in a few weeks and looking forward to stepping on the platform again this October.

After 8 weeks without bench press or any chest pressing exercises, due to my bizzare chest & back injury. Still not sure what caused it but rib & clavicle have literally been out of place (see second photo of clavicle) & weakness & terrible pain in pec & lat areas. 💪Yesterday  I got back on the bench. Only light weight 40kg 3x10. Nice & easy as I don’t want to undo@all the good work @bodyworxperformance @pivotal_motion have done to help me get back.
🏋🏻‍♂️I’m pretty good with doing my rehab exercises & have been doing (what feels like) a thousand shoulder exercises & and other arm & back exercises to keep strength up. If you’re just learning how to get upside down, try out some of these exercises to build your strength and body awareness upside down!

Here are some key tips:
- spin the inner creases of your elbows forward
- FULLY extend your arms - aka push the floor away from you as much as you can
- core strength: close your ribs think hollow body form
- TWERK TO MAKE IT WERK (pelvic articulation): train your back muscles to arch and curl your low back to help stack hips over shoulders
- leg engagement: engage your legs by squeezing to center (and squeeze your 🍑!)
- build shoulder strength by shifting forward and back (stacking hips on shoulders)
- keep arms straight
- keep gaze between wrists/fingers
- and keep practicing!

Today is my 4 year anniversary of my very first try at jumping up into handstand (it wasn’t for another 6 months that I found 4 seconds of balance in it 😆 which, btw felt like forever!).

Yoga Retreat! ~ Release and Awaken ~
I am so excited to be running a yoga retreat with the amazing @aurora.packer amongst the beachside rainforest of Mission Beach, FNQ - August 9-11. 
This retreat is a time to go deep, to let go, to connect in with yourself. It is also a time be fully present, engaged, and gently welcome in the challenge that you may need. It’s about fully engaging and being vulnerable, soft yet powerful.

As Henry David Thoreau said:
“Live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment.” The retreat will be a culmination of sunrise meditations overlooking the ocean, active vinyasa flows, and deep yielding yin practices. 
It will be a full, nourishing schedule including a workshop on the Saturday amongst the other classes, but ensuring there is time for yourself and time for yummy food.
