Wonderful news from Elgin, Moray today – it’s been crowned the hot cross bun capital of Scotland, thanks to the locals’ enthusiastic consumption of the traditional treats last Easter. Since Legendary Scotland spends a lot of time there, we’re going to be taking full credit for their excellent new title, and eating a whole heap of HCBs today to celebrate.
And while we think a delicately spiced, currant-studded bun is pretty much perfect, we can’t help but feel a tiny bit envious that the lucky residents of London and NYC are getting to sample some very special whisky HCBs this weekend.
Scotch cross buns, created by pastry genius @chefrorymacdonald, will be on sale at @patisseriechanson in the Big Apple and at @macandwild’s restaurants in the Big Smoke (in the form of a drool-worthy ice cream sandwich – check it out on their grid). Each one is infused with @thedalmore, and has a whisky glaze to boot.
If you manage to get your hands on one, do let us know! In the meantime, we’re making our own makeshift version: a normal hot cross bun with a dram on the side. 🥃
