Recently, someone I love tried to end their own life. 💔
I’ve been shaken since then.
Shaken because I knew it was coming.
Shaken because we’d been doing everything we could to prevent it.
I decided that’s important to share.
See, there’s this common misconception - you may even be guilty of it yourself - where people think if you’re depressed, you just get help then everything is okay.
You see a psych one time, then you walk out and your world is full of colour again... 🌈
That’s simply not the case.
We’d spent once a week together seeing a #psychologist and #psychiatrist and it still wasn’t enough. The world of mental health isn’t so black and white.
We’ve been on this journey for years and this person I love is improving but they’re still so far from okay. 😔
I’m not sure people notice that.
People assume because someone is getting help - everything is fine. If they’re on meds, they must be okay.
They cried for help, they got it.
Case closed. 🙅🏻♀️ But it’s not that simple. 😕 It never is.
Please, if you know someone who is struggling, who was struggling, who may be struggling - hell, even someone who’s posted some cryptic quote
CHECK IN! 🗣
Check in honestly and openly.
They’ll probably say “I’m fine, don’t worry about it.” 🙂 Check in anyway.
Remind them you’re there,
whatever they need.
Tell them you’ve got a spare room and a home full of love.
Assure them you’re not here to downplay when things are hard, you’re here to listen. Their struggles are real. Their pain is valid.
Come vent. Come cry or hug it out. Provide more comfort food than they can handle. Whatever they need.
Remind them that you love them, always and unconditionally.
You are never alone. ❤️
This world would be a much darker place without you in it.
We will get through this, together. 👫
