Here are some of my best tips on how to maintain a calorie deficit and make sure you lose fat over time:

Eat protein and veggies with every meal, while avoiding liquid calories most of the time🥤

The amount of times I’ve had a client say to me they had gone over their daily calorie target by a few hundred so wanted to sack in the whole week and binge eat. Actually when we sat and looked at the days previously they were in enough of a calorie deficit to STILL maintain a deficit even though one day had gone over!

Eating one or two things over your target or over your syns or whatever you’re following, isn’t what will muck up your progress. It’s the out of control binge and “sod it I’ve mucked up I’ll start again tomorrow” attitude that actually undoes the hard work.
.
If you’ve “given in to temptation” (ie you’ve eaten some food....🤷🏻‍♀️but for some reason it’s been demonised therefore makes you feel guilty) just accept it, ENJOY IT! I mean, you’ve eaten it because you wanted it, right? Why make yourself feel guilty then? You’re a grown adult you can make choices and this is the choice in that moment so just own it! Then move the hell on.

Food is fuel. Overdone the sweets? They’ll fuel a cracking workout so you’ve enjoyed the flavour AND worked on your fitness. Awesome!

And as for over restriction....we all feel miserable and all fall off it much more quickly than if you choose a more realistic target. You can over restrict and binge and lose no bodyfat because you’ve just topped back up to maintenance over the course of the weekend as “the diet starts again Monday”......or you can keep in a small and easily sustainable calorie deficit and eat the things you fancy and still lose bodyfat.

Personally, I’m not such a huge fan of supplementing. However, there are some great supplements out there that really can make you get the most of your workout, when used in combination with strength training. 👍 .
Also, as I mentioned before in my other posts, the unprocessed foods we consume don’t contain as much nutrients as it used to have, so we need to take supplements in order to get what we need for our health.💪

My top 3 (all natural and safe) sports supplements:
1️⃣ Whey protein isolate. Benefits: due to the whey, this protein is fast-digesting and absorbing to increase your muscle gains or preserve muscle.
2️⃣ Creatine. Benefits: improves recovery time, increases endurance, enhances muscle volume. This will make your body able to do extra at the gym, in the form of volume.
3️⃣ L-Glutamine. Benefits: preserve/build muscle, lose weight fast, brain health, boost athletic performance, build lean body, treats leaky gut, boost immune system, balance PH-levels.

1️⃣ Omega-3 Fish Oil of natural triglycerides. Benefits: reduces abdominal fat, heart and brain health, boosts overall fat loss.

3️⃣ Multi Vitamin. .
⚠️ Keep in mind to always buy a high quality supplement. Low, cheap supps will not help you, but can even harm you (refer to the checklist I posted a while back for quality indicators). .

Last week I faced one of my biggest fears.
.
Public speaking.
.
I was invited to talk at a health and wellness week for a mutilnational company in London.
. 
Despite every cell in my body wanting to turn down the offer, this is something I know I need to get better at, so I accepted.
.
The presentation itself didn’t go as well as I hoped.
.
My mind went blank halfway through and I forgot a part of the talk.
.
I also spoke way too fast which meant my 10-minute slot was reduced to around 7 minutes.
.
But…
.
It didn’t really matter.
.
It didn’t need to be perfect.
.
I still got the main points of the talk across.
.
I had some really nice feedback and all of the Ebooks I printed for the day were snapped up.
.
Now have a list of potential new clients that didn’t know I existed 2 days ago.
.
And I feel so much better for the experience.
.
Good stuff always happens when you push yourself to do the things you don’t want to, but know you should.
.
As the saying goes, the magic happens outside out of your comfort zone.
.
Fear can be crippling.
.
If you spend all of your time living in your head, worrying about what may happen, nothing gets done.
.
But when you take action?
.
You actually start to live in the present.
.
And that's when you can actually start to make progress.
.
Give it a go this week.
.
Pick ONE thing that you've been putting off.
.
Even if it's something small.
.
And make a start.
.
It'll seem a LOT less 'daunting' once you do.
.
I can guarantee it.

All too often I think we, as a society, have a tendency to  complicate things.

We are bombarded with countless weightless diets, but at the end of the day, it comes down to eating less calories than you burned to lose weight. Then where those calories come from can determine what weight you lose, fat or muscle.

There is a supplement for about anything, and I mean anything. With all the "quick fix" and flashy marketing out there, it makes it really hard to filter through the bullshit. And we end up overlooking what truly produce results.

For example, when it comes to post workout, your body needs glucose (carbs) and protein post workout. This is needed because when you train you break down your muscles, and deplete your energy stores which is glucose (from carbs) stored in the muscles as glycogen.

When you finish training your body has two distinct tasks to accomplish:

1) Replenish your glycogen stores.
2) Repair your muscle tissue.

I also take a hair, skin, and nails supplement as training hard means I SWEAT alot! This takes a toll on my hair being washed so frequently so these keep it from becoming brittle. And who doesn’t want good skin and nails? 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I take MSM and glucosamine as I have the symptoms of early onset arthritis and I do notice when I take glucosamine the symptoms are not nearly as severe. It’s not a massive difference but I’ll take any help I can get.

Broccoli sprout extract is something I’m really into. Broccoli sprouts contains sulforaphane which has been shown to have powerful anti-carcinogenic properties as well as several cognitive benefits. As someone whose family has a long history of cancer, I am really mindful of living a healthy lifestyle and trying to minimize my risk. It’s not a cure, and it’s not magic, but the research has been very positive so that’s worth it to me.

Finally, I also take fucoxanthin. Fucoxanthin is a component of brown seaweed and may increase metabolic rate through stimulating production of uncoupling proteins that cause wasting of energy production (talked about in depth in Fat Loss Forever). It also has been shown to have positive effects on blood lipids and insulin sensitivity. .

Ahh, starvation mode...⁣

🤣 So when you don't eat enough food your body stops burning body fat, slowing down your metabolism and keeps you overweight.⁣
Too bad this isn't true⁣

🤦‍♂️ Why this is still spoken about, I have no idea, it has been disproved over and over again in multiple studies, and real-world scenarios.⁣

People who opt for weight loss surgeries such as gastric sleeving/gastric banding lose weight continually every single week. They physically cannot get in enough calories to maintain thier weight.⁣

None of them ever complain of starvation mode⁣

I believe the problem lies with:⁣

Whilst this isn’t a recent progress pic, it is coming up to 2 years to the day since Paul approached me asking for my help to get him lean for his summer holiday in Ibiza.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
Paul was a keen gym goer at the time, still is as we talk every now and then, but felt confused with how best to approach his fat loss.⁣⠀
⁣⠀
The amount of questions I got asked before we started was a lot. Rather than make it complicated, we kept things simple and focussed on getting the most from the least.⁣⠀

As the fat started dropping off him though, he began to have doubts and stated to think he was losing muscle, which was frustrating him.⁣⠀

I reassured him all along the way and he cracked on.⁣⠀

Paul was a busy guy socially and had a couple of stag do’s to attend (I made sure he went on them), and we just used strategies that kept him on track. ⁣⠀

We weren’t strict and he could choose to have whatever he wanted. In his case Bourbon biscuits.⁣⠀

But full credit to him as he did the right thing, ask questions if he was unsure of anything and them implement the advice. Easy. ⁣⠀

I hadn’t tried a lot previously, but I did try to find advice on the internet, and even though the information is there, I didn't know how to implement anything correctly.⁣
