Katalin Ladik: Singing Chests
The phonic interpretation of Bálint Szombathy’s and Katalin Ladik’s visual poems
The acb NA’s season ending exhibition presents Katalin Ladik’s latest sound poetry project. The antecedent of The Singing Chests is a photo series resulting from the collaboration of Bálint Szombathy and Katalin Ladik, members of the Bosch+Bosch artist group, known for its commitment to conceptualism. The visual elements of the series captured during the artists’ trip to Tenerife in 1976 are fish crates discovered in the city port, and their colorful letters, signs and codes that can be interpreted as visual poetry. In order to read them as such, Katalin Ladik revisited the photographs of the Singing Chests in 2017 and used them as scores for a phonic interpretation in a free and loose manner. Along the artist’s concept, the images appear in the form of a projection in the expanded musical space.
Katalin Ladik will perform at the opening, which will be streamed on our Facebook page.
