Just finished reading and blogging about the book, Good to Go: What the Athlete in All of Us Can Learn from the Strange Science of Recovery by Christie Aschwanden. It’s an informative read that offered me insights and reflections into my own practice, which I found has some room for improvement. ➡️ To read the full review & blog, link in bio.

💦 Our bodies can adapt to fluid loss and the common advice of drinking lots of fluids in advance of big events like HIM or marathons may actually backfire. Why? If you drink a bunch of excess water leading up to a competition, you prime your body to become less adept at holding on to precious fluids. If you have practiced conserving water by waiting until you’re feeling pretty thirsty to drink, your body will adapt.

🥩 🍗 🥚 Its not so much a window of time to get protein into your body for muscle repair, it’s more of an anabolic barn door — and it stays open for about 4-5 hours. The latest research shows that protein will help recovery whether you consume it before or even during exercise, and smaller amounts of protein spread regularly through the day.

❄️I love ice. There I said it. I like that is numbs the aches and pains. And some part of me has always known that that may not always be beneficial. Recent studies have concluded that icing, ice baths, and cryotherapy may feel good on sore muscles and injuries, but can delay muscle healing. While I believe taking your macronutrients into consideration is very important. Think of how we have evolved. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I have never heard of one Caveman with a Macros spread sheet. Or if you were to visit any of the Worlds remaining Hunter Gatherer communities you wouldn't see any of them walking around stressing about tracking their food.

Yet.... many of them had, and have unbelievably lean bodies that we all would be envious of. Lean, athletic builds.

So. What is to blame? Is it magic? Is there a Magic Wand?

3/4 of the population are walking around consuming drinks that are of florescent colours, and foods that resemble a Cartoon character. Yet still scratching their head wondering why they're not healthy, and can't lose weight.  I am still searching the Earth looking for a vegetable that looks like Scooby Doo. No luck. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I am not saying you need to demonize all of these foods, and "treats" together. But I do not think these types of foods should make up 90 percent of your diet.

The more toxic your food is that you are consuming. The greater chance you will be to over eat.

Please stop looking at calories as equal. Eating the same amount of calories of cucumber as skittles will have a much different impact on your genetic expression. Therefore will have a much different impact on how your body metabolizes food, and loses body fat.
