I’m back after a good 3 day break but you guys, I honestly missed the gym so much. Anytime Fitness is literally like my second home and when I don’t go I feel sad, so it really does feel great to be back!

Kettlebell Training:
The development of kettlebells can be traced back to Russian farmers in the 1700s, as an implement originally used to weigh crops. The farmers noticed that they became stronger through the use of these implements, and used them to show off their strength at festivals. Later, the kettlebell was used as a training tool for the Soviet army.

While kettlebells and dumbbells can both be used to train similar movements and exercises, kettlebell training has the distinct advantage of being able to produce ballistic movements more easily than dumbbells. These are movements that produce maximum velocity and acceleration over the shortest amount of time.

With a kettlebell swing, every muscle in your body is involved in every rep, with a specific emphasis on the entire posterior chain. A proper swing involves bending at the hips, not the knees, and using a strong contraction and thrust of the glutes to propel the kettlebell up. Then, your lats and abdominals take over to control the kettlebell as it transitions from the upswing to the downswing, and you start the process all over. 
Better posture and spinal stability. 
It’s cardio without the cardio.

I had a either the media or a voice in the back of my head (or both) telling me for the longest time that I couldn’t wear certain things because they didn’t look good on my ____ (fill in the blank with my least favorite part of my body that day). 🙈 Onsies (or jumpers or whatever they’re called) & heels 👠 with high straps around the ankles were near the top of the list. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And man - I was MISSING OUT!! 🕺

This is really a tribute to my #fitfam , because with them I’ve not only been able to find lasting physical results but have changed my mindset to go along with it - and lemme tell you..rocking the things I never thought I could wear is fun AF. 💃🏼

So many of us ladies dream about our wedding day and for me I definitely didn’t want to look back at pictures and not recognize the person I was. 
When I started my health and fitness journey 5 1/2 years ago marriage wasn’t even a thought in our minds. However I knew one day I wanted to look and feel my best on my wedding day and if I was going to make changes I needed to make them at that very moment. I knew the longer I waited the harder it would be for me yet not impossible. 
So I went all in.I poured my heart out to my coach and got really vulnerable about things I never thought I would share. I came to the realization that working out wasn’t going to fix bad nutrition and this needed to be a lifestyle because quick fixes and crash diets DON’T WORK! 
At 184.4lbs, smoker, over eater,carbolic, and mean girl I was welcomed into a community that helped me see the positive in change I always needed! 
I went all in with my at home workouts and even though there were days I couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t do one friggin push-up I didn’t give up. I learned how to make good food but eat the proper portions and I stopped over eating. I worked on getting more sleep and putting myself around positive people. I engaged in the community and they pushed me to keep going on hard days and good! 
The day I walked down the aisle was honestly the best day of my life. I felt my best, I looked my best, my skin was my best, my health was my best and I was so freaking proud of all the hard work I put in and still l am to this day. 
A lot of people put their health off when it comes time to plan a wedding and start the next chapter your life. I get it weddings are expensive we paid for ours ourselves. However my health, being a happy and healthy wife, and mom someday is more important!

Part of the reason I became a coach at the time was to keep myself more accountable on my journey and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I don’t know if I would still be here today if I didn’t have a coaching community and my challengers and team keeping me on my toes every day.

Pendlay Rows:
This is one of my favorite exercises for a back workout. The idea behind pendlay rows is that you reset after every rep. There are a few steps for every rep:
1. Retract your scapula (imagine you’re crushing a goldfish cracker between your shoulder blades.)
2. Pull the slack in the bar (create tension).
3. Row the weigh to your body.
4. Control the weight on the way down.
5. Reset and do steps 1-4 again.

I see a lot of people in the gym using so-so form, and I’m guilty of it myself! Pendlays are an easy way to check yourself before you (literally) wreck yourself. I’m rowing 135 in this video for my working sets. Could I do 185 with improper form? Most definitely. But I would be putting myself at risk for injury, and I wouldn’t be benefiting in terms of muscle hypertrophy and strength. Try this exercise out and let me know how it goes. It’s February now, so keep getting in the gym to work towards your goals! You can do this.

I saw this quote this morning after my alarm going off, me switching it off & getting back into bed. We have a very busy week onboard so just knowing this makes me all the more tired.
I know how good I feel when I get up & get moving, but this morning I decided to jump back into bed for 20 minutes & have a morning scroll 🤳🏻
It was during this scroll that I saw this quote on one of my favourite acounts, @before5am ⏰ & it hit a nerve.
So I got up, I got dressed & I showed up. Yes I didn’t look my best, sleepy eyes & puffy skin but I did it & my body is thanking me for it now.
My body feels awake, my brain doesn’t feel foggy & I’m ready for a busy day.
I’m going to keep this quote with me for the remainder of the week so I make sure i’m on the right track & moving forward.

I often hear my clients tell me that they aren’t real runners. 🤔 Ahh...I’m pretty sure if you’re moving faster than walking you are 🥰 ..
People have this perception that in order to “be a runner” you need to be fast, be really fit, do races, be on the podium, log a ton of miles etc. Running is about getting outside and moving, whether that’s by yourself, with a friend, pushing a stroller. Being a runner is about being a part of a community. Being a runner is about setting a goal and trying to accomplish it. Being a runner is saying you are one. Basically what I’m saying is that there isn’t one thing that defines you as a runner. At the end of the day, i tell all my coaching clients, if you get outside and move and enjoy doing it, you are a runner! Happy Tuesday! 😘 .

***TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY*** I don't take many pictures...just never really wanted to but I was scrolling through my phone and found these pics. The first pic was taken in April 2017 and the 2nd one was taken in November 2018. There is approximately an 18 month difference. I'm not as embarrassed as I should be because I see a huge transformation. Obviously I wasn't in the best shape in the first pic. I let life take over and didn't put myself first. In the second pic, I dialed in my nutrition and worked out at home. Not at a gym but in the comfort of my own house. Who says working out at home doesn't work? Well I can attest to the fact that it does work if YOU put in the work. Yes, I know what I'm suppose to do and know what to do but sometimes it's hard. Sometimes you just don't want to do it and come up with every excuse why you shouldn't. I can say once I changed my mindset and found what works for me, I changed my life. I'm down 45lbs, tons of inches and I feel better than I ever have. Now don't get me wrong...I still have days where I don't want to show up, but I do it any way because I made a promise to myself not to give up on me. I will continue to put me first so I can be the best me for my family. Showing up is the hardest part! Once you master that part, the rest is easy!! Happy Tuesday, guys!!! I get a lot of questions about gaining healthy weight aka bulking, so here it goes.

1. You may lose your abs. That’s okay. Being healthy isn’t about overly visible abdominals...all the time at least😂

2. Yes, you have to eat more, BUT it still needs to be nutritious. You eat for the body you want! (Daily for me- 3 shakes, 2 meals, 1 healthy snack)

3. You will have to lift weights. You wanna be heavy? You gotta eat and lift heav(ier). ____

4. “What about my clothes?” Gotta buy some stretchy leggings and loose shirts, friend!

5. “What if I don’t like being heavier?” Look. The human body runs on the fuel you give it. It does what you tell it to (to a certain extent). LOVE the body you have and still work on the body you desire. It’s not up to your friends, family, partner, or INSTA. Fall in love with your body daily. Do what makes that possible.
