Today was a challenging day. Full of way too many disasters before lunchtime, and a lot of heavy, long-term stressors weighing on my shoulders. One step forward, two steps back.
Just when I was starting to feel sorry for myself and starting to get cranky with the ones I love, Stella’s words came tapping on my shoulder.....”This, too, shall pass.” She had more than her share of stress, heartache and troubles. She buried 2 husbands, 2 grandchildren, and several siblings, nieces, and nephews long before their time. She survived a heart attack and other health issues. She worked a full career at a time when many women were depending on men for everything.
But she never took herself too seriously. She knew that life had many more joys than sorrows, as long as you knew where to focus your eyes. She knew how to enjoy herself, she knew how to laugh, and she knew that people and relationships were more important than things. She knew how to slow down and just be present.
Even after all the years she has been gone, I’m so thankful for all the years I had with her, and so grateful that her words still echo in my heart just when I need them the most.
And when this day is finally over, I will probably also be thankful for wine. It won’t be her signature Scotch, but I think she’d approve. ❤️🍷 #grandma #gram #countyourblessingsnotyourproblems #missyou
