⏳ It’s time for action! It’s time to End TB! ⌛ #WorldTuberculosisDay
🔬On #24thMarch , in 1882, Dr. Koch announced Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes #TB ! 🦠 It's an infectious disease, air-transmitted when people with active infection in their lungs cough, spit, speak or sneeze. 😷 It occurs more often in people with HIV/AIDS, giving chronic cough with blood-containing sputum, fever and weight loss. A latent TB without symptoms and transmissibility also exists.
📈 Each day, nearly 4,500 people die and close to 30,000 people fall ill with it. Over 1/3 of people affected don't access quality care and only 1 in 4 people with drug-resistance TB access to therapy.
⏰ According to #WHO , theme of this year - ‘IT'S TIME’ – puts the accent on the urgency to act on the commitments made by global leaders to:
▪ scale up early access to preventive #treatment and to antiretroviral therapy for HIV-associated TB;
▪ scale up investments in TB #research and innovation;
▪ promote an end to stigma and discrimination;
▪ promote an equitable, rights-based and people-centered TB response.
💪🏻 We all must unite forces under the banner “Find. Treat. All. #EndTB ” to ensure no one is left behind.
#DidYouKnow ? 🏥 San Luigi hospital was born as a sanatorium for TB treatment: it can be seen from the structure with long connecting and sunny corridors and the vast surrounding park.
