You may have noticed I’ve been on hiatus over here and the blog? Maybe you haven’t because you too have a lot going on! Either way, I felt the need to write. It’s been 6 months since my last blog post (these pancakes 👌🏻) which I posted whilst travelling around Sicily. Bliss.
But since returning from our 5-month long adventure, I’ve had different feels about blog life. The hiatus has been wholly intentional whilst I reflect on what it is I want to achieve from blogging. My intention was clear in the beginning - help others suffering from gut issues, then it was about fostering a community, and finally my focus turned to food photography & styling. Now, I just don’t know.
Instagram is a whole different beast now where paid rules. Community is an ever-challenging thing to nurture. My interests are morphing away from ‘friendly food’ toward sustainability. And biggest of all – my gut has healed. It took over 6 long years but it literally changed my life and I no longer follow a low FODMAP or gluten free diet.
With that, I also don’t feel like the right person to be sharing advice on intolerances. In a world of health professionals who now know what low FODMAP means, I’m no longer the pro in this space - and that's kind of been made clear. The negativity (& honestly shaming) of the few slip ups not sticking strictly enough to most recent fodmap guidelines has sucked the passion out of a once rewarding hobby. And yes, it's a hobby, because like most bloggers, I do it for free y'all! Suffice to say, I’ve fallen quickly out of love with it all and I'm ready to find the passion elsewhere.
It’s a sad thing, even the thought of closing down my beloved recipe website, a place I still go weekly for a recipe to whip up dinner or a cake to use those bananas ripening on the bench.
I don't want my rant to take away from the fact that it's been a damn pleasure! It’s not goodbye, but it’s a prolonged hiatus until I figure what’s next for FLK. Perhaps a simple recipe website, or maybe something completely new… For now, I’m planning my wedding, knocking up websites, getting my yoga & handstands on, and just taking time to enjoy the little things 😉📚☀️💜
