Something is growing in here, but not sure what and like Carl Jüng said, "... fantasy is not nothing. It is of course, not a tangible object, but it is a fact, nevertheless. It is, you see, a form of energy, despite the fact that we can't measure it. It is a manifestation of something and that's a fact."

My plant witch OC Meda. This is the flat black and white version ❤️ her hair is harder for me to draw compared to straight hair... But I try! If she's familiar it's because I posted a redesign of her this year.

— it’s been one year since i finished up this delightfully creepy lil anglerfish! the lighting/shadows around it have a big effect on how the colors are seen... pretty spooky 👀

🍡Auberge Tosayama, Kochi, Shikoku
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ⓒ Peter Callas 2019.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Auberge is a French word for an inn. Historically, it is often used in association with an on-site restaurant and a reliance on locally-sourced ingredients. The Japanese owners of this “auberge” in the hills above the coastal city of Kochi have interpreted the term to mean “lodging, extraordinary feasts, and contentment”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Its striking modernist architecture was designed by local architect Shigeru Hosogi. The project came about because of the local rural community’s concern about the crisis of depopulation and the aging of the people remaining in the area. These concerns are not unique to Tosayama — they are painfully common all over Japan — but this village’s method of addressing them seems unique. Dozens of workshops were held for over a decade. The model of a showcase “auberge” emerged gradually from just a simple single-building rural community bathhouse cum meeting place. When architect Hosogi was asked in he also continued to join the communal meetings and the plan grew to over 100 times the initial size to include a number of pavilions. At that point the local government office became involved and the building was formally commissioned. Despite the fact that the whole project had grown way beyond the local, Hosogi and the villagers held to the concept of the “Tossan House” method - an architectural and cultural movement that aims to create a healthy house that can be lived in for over a hundred years. The materials employed include Tosa Sugi (Japanese Cedar), Sakai, Tosa Plaster and Tosa Washi. The floor in the cathedral-ceilinged lobby is made of soft Oya stone, a warm inexpensive alternative to granite. The original bathhouse concept was retained with a strikingly modernist rotenburo-style outside bath. And, true to the villagers’ initial concerns, the restaurant is manned by nimble octogenarians.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hosogi effortlessly references modernist classics such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water (1939) and Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion (1929), both of which integrate flowing water into the intrinsic design of the architecture.
