Our pursuit of physical 'perfection' is killing our happiness and damaging our health, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well.
. 
How many times have you looked at an Instagram picture, a magazine, a friends Facebook profile, a TV commercial, a movie and thought something along the lines of... 'I'm going to get my body looking like that'? In that moment making the body you have right now wrong, bad or less than because of a social comparison. In those moments we're not left feeling good about our bodies, our overall satisfaction and happiness is diminished and we are left with the belief that we need to change something about ourselves... Which when this doesn't work out leads to even more shame, self judgment and dissatisfaction.

Here's the facts, dodies are diverse. Mainstream media does not portray diversity of bodies. Your body is not meant to look like (insert names) body... Even if the add selling you a meal replacement shake tells you it does. All body's are equal, deserving and worthy of love and respect. There are plenty of people in a body just like yours that live the way you want to be living in the world.

Your body is something to be celebrated right now exactly as it is, for all that it allows you to do in this life. Perfection as something to achieve is but an illusion that will always lead to disappointment. Could it be that right now you ARE perfect...

This is what remains of a fried chicken meal my husband and I ate together. Fried chicken was one of my extra forbidden foods. I passed up so many opportunities to have it and in the end, lost out on enjoying lots of bbqs and birthdays with people. I made a choice to go get some on my own terms. It was one of the most amazing meals of my life. Spent the last few hours meal prepping lunches to bring to work: bowls made with roasted sweet potato, onion, kale, spiced chickpeas, & broccoli 🥦 topped off with a tahini, garlic, maple & lemon dressing! 🍋 the past week or so I haven’t been feeling my best (stressed, sluggish, bad digestion, bad skin 🙈), and I ate out & drank with friends/bae a few times, so I’m redoubling my efforts to eat alllll the nutrients this week... eating healthy always makes me feel better 🙌🏻 what kind of self-care do you like to do to feel your best? 💕

My meals today were pretty much the exact same as last night (which I posted about in full detail📝📝 haha) except one major difference! Even though I ate a bunch of sea salt again, I didn’t care!!! I just embraced my craving and didn’t fight it. The cravings have put my mind into battle mode the last week and why endure that?? There is no point. So I embraced it with excitement that I got to indulge on something I rarely include in my regular diet. Once the joint pain and headaches that sea salt always gives me get bad enough then I will naturally stop eating salt again. So many other things ebb and flow in life so maybe my salt intake will just ebb and flow as well 🤷‍♀️ I hope your weekend ended beautifully. I love you all so much and thank you for being there for me 💓🙏🙏 Goodnight!!!

I’ve noticed a trend where people lose a certain amount of weight and THEN they start getting active.  This was also the case for me.  Looking back on it, I think there was a sense of legitimacy in waiting until I was in a thinner in order to be athletic.  I also suspect that there was an element of trying to avoid weight stigma.  I didn’t feel worthy of participating in athletic activities in a bigger body and I certainly didn’t think I could call myself an athlete. In a smaller body I began to move they way I had always wanted but felt I was somehow wasn’t allowed to.  I wasn’t the fastest or the strongest so I didn’t think I had any business participating.  Once I started getting active, I went through years of a sort of imposter syndrome.  I was working out with intensity to prove I was somehow worthy and always having to push to the next level - regardless of what was actually beneficial for me. .

If we know that activity (in whatever way we enjoy, can access and have the ability to participate in) is an important element of our health then why aren’t we doing more to encourage everyone to simply move their bodies?  Instead we create more boundaries and limitations that become completely counterproductive.  And if we’re moving for movements sake - for our holistic health - then we can take our weight loss obsession off the table and find ways to get active. .

There is no body that is more worthy of participating in an activity than another.  Our choice of movement does not need to fit within our culture’s idea of fitness.  It does not need to be extreme or a form of punishment.  We do not have to take up any form of movement in order to change or shrink our bodies.  We can move in ways that we enjoy.  And we certainly do not need to wait until we arrive at some preconceived point to start moving. .

Honestly an oval bowl seems cute until every photo looks distorted 😂 this was my quick post-gym lunch today, and tbh I’m pretty impressed. I used a packet of microwave rice and some pre-marinated chicken from coles that I cooked in the sandwich press, then all I needed to do was chop up some veggies 😁 this was incredibly tasty, and also great because I needed to cook the chicken for dinner so now it’s all ready. Definitely something I’d recommend to people that are busy, or just lazy 😂

Mama’s have you ever felt food guilt? That guilt around eating or not eating certain foods especially when it comes to something unhealthy or off your plan?  I’ve certainly fallen into this trap myself, but it is possible to stop and actually enjoy a burger (or any other food) guilt free. .

Here are 2 ways to change the way you think about food: ✨FOLLOW THE 80/20 RULE - ditch the all or nothing mindset. Thinking that if you eat something off your plan all is lost and you sabotaged everything.  Instead embrace the 80/20 rule where 80% of the time you enjoy Whole Foods and 20% of the time you eat fun foods. ✨STOP FOOD SHAMING - food is food.  There are no ‘bad’ or ‘good’ foods. Sure some foods are healthier than others but your worth isn’t wrapped up in what you did or didn’t eat. Changing your mindset on food will free you from food guilt. Instead next time you choose to enjoy a piece of cake or ice cream etc enjoy it and move on. No guilt. .

I missed out on a lot of moments because I couldn’t stop thinking about how I looked. How is my body being perceived by others? Do my arms look small enough in this sleeveless dress? Are my legs ok in these jean shorts? Does this pose make me look slimmer? Do we need to take that group pic again so I can suck in my tummy a little more? Is this photo going on Instagram? Do I have back fat visible in this shirt? Will people feel it when they hug me? Will they judge me for it? Will they think less of me? Am I desirable enough? Worthy enough? What do I have to change so that I am?

I spent too much time and brain space wondering if looked good to others and worrying that I did not. These thoughts began when I was a young teen and continued through the depths of my dieting. They happened in every body I’ve inhabited. I can never get this lost time back. But I can tell you this - I’m committed to making sure I never let it get taken from me again. My life and my time is too important to wonder and worry how others perceive my arms, legs, back, tummy, or any part of me. My body is not a spectacle for others, nor something that makes me any less or more worthy, nor something that needs acceptance from anyone else but myself. ✌🏼

I spent too much time and brain space wondering if looked good to others and worrying that I did not. These thoughts began when I was a young teen and continued through the depths of my dieting. They happened in every body I’ve inhabited. I can never get this lost time back. But I can tell you this - I’m committed to making sure I never let it get taken from me again. My life and my time is too important to wonder and worry how others perceive my arms, legs, back, tummy, or any part of me. My body is not a spectacle for others, nor something that makes me any less or more worthy, nor something that needs acceptance from anyone else but myself. ✌🏼

Day seven on my raw food experiment and I’m learning so much more about my body than I ever imagined I would. Feeding my body in such a way that makes it feel good and energized is such an accomplishment and I’m gaining so much reward, even beyond the physical, such as self-love. Giving my body love and nourishment and listening to what it likes and doesn’t like has really, really done wonders for my mental health and my self-esteem. It’s crazy how much our brain affects our body and vice versa. Coincidentally, I’m reading @shannonkaiserwrites’s, The Self-Love Experiment, and came across this quote which is so fitting with my place in life right now. 
Once you start loving your body the way it wants to be loved, your mind will open and overflow with self-kindness.

I am a big fan of “biologically appropriate weight” and not so much “BMI” or “IBW”. Because it’s about the weight, but it’s not really about the weight. It’s so much more about the behaviors that may be artificially altering the weight.

One thing to note is that a biologically appropriate weight is one that isn’t micromanaged or controlled with unhealthy behaviors. 👏🏼

I’m very excited that Dr Jackie Montefiore and I have joined forces to create a regular gig on my podcast, Ask Dr Jackie.

The idea will be that we will talk about topics on health that you have questions on, and between us both you will gain a medical, nutritional & a coaching perspective for each topic.

Jackie has a degree in nutrition and dietetics, as well as a medical degree. She has a medical practice in Brisbane @sante.medical.  Her approach is to use simple, targeted lifestyle modifications to improve overall health.

I’m super excited about doing this with Jackie. And I’ve already had a number of topics you would like us to discuss.

• what to eat for optimal health to help with all the conflicting information out there
• please explain ‘Keto’
• how low should we take our carbs?
• should we go Keto or is low carb enough?
• should we eat before we exercise?
• is fat adapted training a thing?
• is intermittent fasting safe for women?
• do we need to take vitamins and minerals on Keto if we’ve reduced our fruit and veggie intake?
