Here’s to the weekend... BUT, did you ever stop to think that Friday, Saturday and Sunday are 42% of the week?
“I’m not getting results and I’m so good 90% of the time - it’s just the weekends” 👀 Sound familiar?
Now you know I’m all about balance 🍸🍫🥗but I’m happy to accept I might just maintain or gain a little if I’m going to indulge at the weekend. That 42% statistic always surprises my @ohfitnessfurnace clients when I tell them but I when I first calculated it (that degree in maths paid off 🤪) I realised that the calorie deficit I was creating by training and dieting hard at the start of the week was being cancelled out by wine I was having at lunch time on Friday in the office 😳🍷🖨
Again, I just like to educate my clients so they can make their own decisions. I hate seeing people putting in the hard work and not getting the results ☺️

We carry collective as well as individual trauma in our bodies. :  @Regrann from @with_this_body - Disordered eating is very often a *normal,* adaptive, resilient, (in many ways, predictable) response to a disordered, toxic, or traumatic environment, events, or people surrounding an individual. Very often, disordered behavior(s) emerged as a means of survival. Before we rush to rid folks of these behaviors, we must first seek to understand their function and beauty, create safety and containment, and then consider whether and which behaviors make sense to let go of.

Here’s the thing about the diet-binge cycle that nobody talks about…it’s not dieting, in a vacuum, that triggers it. 
It’s wanting to control your weight,
that triggers the dieting (in various forms),
that triggers it.
Every time I ask a client, “why is it so scary to let go of controlling your food?” the answer is invariably,
“I’m afraid I’ll gain weight.”
Duh.
Fear of weight gain controls us.
Fear of weight gain is why “it’s so hard to let go,” or “I’m not there yet,”
Fear of weight gain backs us up against a wall and says “you don’t have a choice in this matter,”
Get thin or die. 
When you let yourself be controlled by your fear of gaining weight,
because you believe the walls will cave in around you or the Earth will burst into flames if you do,
that’s when the cycle begins. 
that’s when you can not help but to judge every bite of food you feed yourself,
that’s when you can not help but to obsess about your food,
that’s when you feel like you don’t have a choice but to restrict,
because you believe your survival depends on it. 
And then it’s just a matter of time…
before you can’t fight any longer.…
before you’re on autopilot — lunging for that jar of peanut butter,
because you just need some R.E.L.I.E.F. 
The pressure is too much; it’s too heavy to bear.
When you’re only okay with yourself at a certain weight, it’s like you’re handing food a baseball bat and saying:
“You have the power to make or break me, show me who’s boss.”
Emotional Eating is the almost certain outcome of hating your body.
Is body acceptance something you are willing to work on? What are you willing to let go of, to get to the other side?

Not in all cases, but some of us spend our lives trying to change our body in order to finally feel sort of acceptance. That when we finally hit a certain weight, we will finally be happy. Good morning! The first free Saturday morning of the year and we’ve hit the ground running with all things fresh, fruity and full of goodies. .

Some days, only nature’s best will do and on this occasion, these reds, golds and greens with a side of vanilla yoghurt and a sprinkling of chia seeds will be fuelling these little fruit bats through a morning of relaxed pottering, summoning the energy to tackle the weekend’s homework. .
.
Fruit is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and diets high in fruit are associated with all manner of benefits, including a decreased risk of many diseases.
.
.
Publicity over low carb diets such as the Keto and Atkins, has many  concerned over the sugar content of fruit and people may worry that eating too much of it may be harmful or lead to weight gain.
.
.
Helpfully, research has demonstrated that thanks to keeping tummies feeling full, eating fresh fruit as part of a balanced diet can be associated with consuming fewer calories and maintaining a healthy weight over time. .
.
In studies, the health benefits were not found to extend to puréed or fruit juice and so the bottom line? All things in moderation, but enjoying a range of whole fruit may help to improve overall health. Whilst fruit does contain sugar, its polyphenol and fibre content may actually play a role in improving long-term blood sugar control and even potentially protect against type 2 diabetes. Tuck in!

Sometimes it’s just nice to make something the good ol’ fashioned way.  Had a fabulous conversation over lunch with an amazing woman today. We talked about life and brainstormed about food (what else is there to talk about?). I made a quick and #healthy #lunch in my wok using spices and vegetables already on hand:  #spicy #japchae with beef. And I made enough to pack for the kiddos’ lunches tomorrow!

Sometimes it’s just nice to make something the good ol’ fashioned way. Had a fabulous conversation over lunch with an amazing woman today. We talked about life and brainstormed about food (what else is there to talk about?). So @instagram decided to delete all of my saved photo drafts today 😭😭 Aka where I keep all of my future posts and recipes .. has this happened to anyone else? This really put a bummer on my day and I really thought about deleting this account because of it. All the hard work I put into those drafts. But I’m not giving up, and will just have to work hard to get my content and recipes back and better than they were before. So I guess I’m starting from scratch ... so starting off with one of my fav snack ideas that I had today. Great source of carbs+protein. Weight bias is utterly revolting and rampant in this area of medicine, and as women we need to reclaim our agency. The vast majority of women in larger bodies will experience a healthy pregnancy and birth. If medical complications occur, they can be managed, and weight loss is NOT a good idea!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s been quite the last few months! Work has been insane, we have 78 days until the wedding and we move into our first home together as soon as we can get carpets ripped up and refinish the hardwood floors! 😂

I haven’t been feeling myself at all, mostly due to stress and I have to say the gym is still the number one place for me to release and get my mind right. I’m so glad I still have the gym on my priority list in the midst of all the chaos!

I think it’s safe to say that the delts are back too ! 🙌🏽

Então... 😅 como já falei aqui uma vez, quando fiz espaguete de abobrinha, eu acho que: é macarrão? Não, óbvio! Não é espaguete de massa. Mas quando sua avó fazia lasanha de berinjela, ninguém chamava de “berinjela empilhada” só porque não tinha massa! Certo? No máximo era moussaka! Então muita calma nessa hora. 😂

Agora, o “fake”, isso eu realmente não acho legal. Nenhuma comida é fake! Comida é comida. Então esse termo realmente não me agrada. E aí tem esse “mousse fake”, mas que na verdade eu nem vejo como um mousse, e sim como um doce delícia pra comer de tarde, cheio de nutrientes sensacionais!

Vitaminas, minerais, fibras, antioxidantes, gordura boa... E, algo que pouco se fala, é que ele é perfeito para veganos. 😍🍃 Então estou chamando ele aqui de “creme de cacau vegano” e é isso aí. 🤟🏼

I used to binge eat ERRDAAY then tell myself I would be “good” tomorrow - then tomorrow would come...and it would happen again. ⁣

I thought that by eating perfectly, I would somehow become perfect myself. (PSA: Doesn't work like that)

Which opened up a WHOLE other can of worms. My obsession to eat perfectly started Taking. Over. My. Life.⁣

I was stuck in the middle of a tug of war with myself - WANTING to eat all of the things, but NOT WANTING to let myself. ⁣

I wouldn’t go 2 minutes without thinking or stressing about food in some format. Ever 🙅⁣
⁣
It literally never shut off. ⁣
⁣
It. Was. Exhausting.⁣
⁣
I thought I was going to gain MORE control in my life - but I was feeling MORE out of control than ever, had NO hobbies b/c I spent ALL my energy thinking about and researching food, and couldn’t function normally around food.⁣

All because I was trying to pursue “perfect health”. Or if I’m being real - I was trying to pursue the “perfect” body. ⁣

Marie Kondo nos enseña a deshacernos de los objetos inutilizados que contaminan nuestro espacio vital. En efecto, todos solemos acumular pertenencias superfluas a lo largo de nuestra existencia.
¿No se les ocurre nada? Me refiero al manual de operación de la lavadora que vendimos hace 3 años, al vestido azul que se nos veía tan bien cuando íbamos en prepa, al cargador del IPhone que perdimos en un taxi, o a las fotografías de nuestro primer matrimonio. El simple hecho de saber que estas cosas están ahí, en el fondo de algún cajón o en la esquina de alguna habitación, roba nuestra paz.

La regla es la siguiente: todo lo que no nos trae felicidad debe desaparecer. La autora aconseja tocar cada prenda de ropa, cada mueble, cada DVD, cada documento administrativo, para poder sentir la energía que emana de ellos y decidir si tiene lugar o no en nuestro hogar. Se trata de vivir con lo esencial.

La sensación de libertad que provoca el hecho de llegar a casa después de haber realizado este ejercicio es indescriptible. 💫🧙🏻‍♀️ La magia ocurre cuando, tratando de expandir el bienestar que sentimos en nuestro hogar, empezamos a aplicar este método a todos los aspectos de nuestra vida. One of the worst things someone could call me.. The food police 🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️ On more than one occasion, I’ve introduced myself as the dietitian and my client immediately throws up his/her guard expecting me to tell them what they can’t eat. “You’re the food police and you’re going to take away all of my favorite foods” “The food police is here, hide your ice cream”

These statements are quite the opposite of what my intentions and mission are as a dietitian.

The food police can exist in our minds telling us what to eat and what not to eat.

The food police sound something like this:
💬Only eat 3 meals a day, no snacking
💬Bagels have too many carbs, don’t eat them
💬Skip breakfast since you ate dessert last night
💬Fruit has too much sugar

These thoughts can consume us and suddenly we’re left with confusion and fear of foods

Guilt develops around specific foods that are deemed “bad” to the food police. The food police come roaring after trying diet after diet.

The food police often set impossible standards that leave you feeling deprived. That feeling of deprivation leads to overcompensating at the next meal.

This leads you stray from your inner tuition. You no longer have a sense of when you’re hungry and when you’re satisfied. It’s either starvation or unpleasantly full.

When you ditch the diets and food police, you are able to start to develop a sense of what your body actually needs from you. You can start to understand how to really be in tune with your intuition.

Instead of finding acceptance and answers from external places, let’s start to listen internally. You will be amazed what you will discover.

And after all, your body and soul will thank you.

MY FAVOURITE KIND OF DINNER ❤️❤️❤️ This is such a staple in my life that I can quickly and easily throw together. It’s absolutely full of vegetables , nutrients and healthy fats that satisfies me and tastes SOOO GOOD. 
I roasted sweet potato (in the microwave), pan fried firm tofu with teriyaki sauce and onions on top of a bed of lettuce, rocket, cucumber, tomato and sweetcorn 🥰 I also bought a new tub of tahini and it was SO runny. I drizzled the tahini all over meal as inspired by @healthycrazycool And I think I’m actually addicted. This tahini was BEAUTIFUL 
I’ve been busy busy busy walking about everywhere and hadn’t very long to make and eat food. I’m trying to not focus on the portion of my meal and the fact I’ve snacked on bits and bobs before and after. May update again later tonight. But please, please remember that this takes practice & work (& often support). And isn’t something that’s just going to come naturally. So give yourself loads of compassion. And get curious about your thoughts, as they come up. If you’re stuck & can only see things one way, without any other possibility, you may be in black-and-white thinking. So experiment with trying to find another possibility. Try finding the grey.

I KNOW GETTING UNCOMFORTABLE CAN BE SCARY

I know commiting to the work and accountability you so desperately need, to actually CHANGE your life can be terrifying.

I get it babe. I am a recovering complacency 👸QUEEEEEEN.

I used to despise getting uncomfortable. 
I just wanted to stay in my bubble forever. My 9-5 that I thought was socially acceptable, my body I didn’t like, my draining obsession about food and validation, and a lack mindset. Never growing, never taking tangible steps to progress me towards a life, business, body and mindset I DESERVE.

Some days you want to grow.. but you don’t know how to get there when the desire comes.

I get it.

Maybe you know deep down there is an area of your life that can use a lot of improvement.

Here are 3 ways to uplevel TODAY

1. Put some skin in the game- INVEST, learn, and take action today and every day forward to improve whatever needs work! Mindset? Read, podcast, get a mentor, hire a life coach, therapist. It is a proven fact that whatever you actually put skin in (money, risk, time) will get you to where you want to be 100 times faster!

2. Take care of your health- Stop dieting every other month and screwing up your metabollism. Bingeing? Restricting? Learn how to become mindful and intuitive to find freedom. You can’t trust google to actually know what your body needs. Start by getting to the actual root causes that are keeping you from a body you deserve!

3. Practice Mindfullness- Slow down. Quiet your mind. Reflect, write down goals every day. Journal your feelings regarding anything that you feel is holding you back from moving forward. Inner mindfull work is a requirment to prime your mindset for growth and oh so rewarding!

You take less than five minutes to prepare (before cooking) which is pretty darn rad. I want to apologize for skipping right over in you the store for years because you had 'too much sugar' or were 'too processed'.

You may have felt shamed by people like me in the past because you have butter, white flour, milk chocolate, and sugar, but I am here to tell you that you deserve ALL the love. I apologize for deeming you as 'off limits' for all this time, but really it was me who was missing out.

I will continue eating you and your friends, the other boxed dessert mixes, and hope you can forgive me. I can't beat your taste and convenience with my own subpar baking skills so you cant count on me for foreseeable future.

In this video I'm doing weighted isometric tricep stretches, and the tension from the weight of the 90lb barbell is placed entirely on my triceps. Tension is important, it's one of the main ways a muscle can perceive that it needs to adapt to better handle stress in the future. And the muscle adapts by building new fibers, a process called myofibrillar hypertrophy. Now this tension is ultimately different than the tension that an exercise with movement creates, but it's appropriate and useful in certain contexts.

As a "finisher", isometrics, especially isometric stretches, are a very safe way to get a ton of tension placed on your target muscles without exposing yourself to an injury due to poor motor patterns in a fatigued state. Isometrics can also be used to warm-up too!

In this video I'm doing weighted isometric tricep stretches, and the tension from the weight of the 90lb barbell is placed entirely on my triceps. Tension is important, it's one of the main ways a muscle can perceive that it needs to adapt to better handle stress in the future. And the muscle adapts by building new fibers, a process called myofibrillar hypertrophy. Now this tension is ultimately different than the tension that an exercise with movement creates, but it's appropriate and useful in certain contexts.

Dangling my feet off this cliff at Lovers Point is my absolute favorite place in the world to relax and drink a cup of coffee (or eat sunflower seeds) and just breathe in the fresh air while thinking about how insanely blessed I am to be alive! I have a wonderful, crazy, amazing family; a super sexy boyfriend who loves me; a great job; a God who knows me and loves me unconditionally; and I’m healthy! There is so much to be thankful for every single day! I don’t know why it seems easier sometimes to focus on the negative things in life but I promise you life will get better if you learn to focus your mind on all of the good. Happy Friday beautiful people ❤️

Is there any better way to Friday than with a paleo chocolate banana bread loaf straight out of the oven? 😍 I don’t bake very often, but I’ve just been thinking about banana bread a lot lately so I finally decided to make it happen. And when I started thinking about what I wanted to put in it, I just so happened to have a full bar of @hukitchen simple chocolate around the house. What’s your favorite things to include in banana bread? -
What I used:
• 3 small ripe bananas • 1 1/2 cups @traderjoes almond meal
• 1/4 cup @wedderspoonofficial manuka honey
• 1 tbsp cinnamon • 1/4 tsp sea salt
• 2 eggs
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1 @hukitchen simple chocolate bar
Start out by pre-heating the oven to 350. Mash the bananas, then add in the eggs and honey and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine the almond meal, baking soda, cinnamon and sea salt. Slowly combine the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix. Chop up the chocolate into smaller pieces, and fold into the batter. Line a bread pan with parchment paper and pour the batter into the pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick can be removed cleanly from the center. This is Ashlin Rea Hofstrand. She recently visited Hawaii but lives in Utah. Her story is INCREDIBLE! “Guys, I haven’t passed out for almost 4 weeks now 🙌 During my pregnancy, passing out, loosing consciousnesses, loosing vision, feeling lightheaded was a daily thing. 4 weeks ago I started taking Plexus- a probiotic/ prebiotic/ vitamin combo. Lunch with the cutest view ever - scooped out toasted bagel w/ cream cheese, avocado, smoked salmon, tomatoes and onion. Protein ✅ fat ✅ carb ✅. Still full 3 hours later. That’s been one of the biggest changes with intuitive eating from WW, my meals are bigger and I’m not always reaching for a snack an hour after I’m done eating.
