Well it's been one week and 3 days since 50 innocent people were brutally gunned to death by a sick, white supremacist extremist in our normally very very safe country. Friday the 15th was a blur for us all. It was surreal. It felt like a sick, horrible nightmare. This just does not happen here. The whole country is still in shock. We continue on with our daily lives and think, man, we are lucky to be alive. That could have happened to any one of us. That could have been our parents, our children, our friends. Could have just as easily happened to us. Our whole country has stood up and said this is not our NZ. Our Prime Minister has said this is not our NZ. She has done us all so very proud over the past week. She has stepped up. She has banned semi automatic guns without question. She has offered to pay for the funerals of each and every one of those who were taken from us and she has offered unprecedented love and support to the familys and community they have left behind. It doesn't matter to us that they were Muslim. It doesnt matter that they dress differently or speak differently. They are us and we are one. We are all mourning this tragic loss. We are marching against racism, protesting against white supremacy, talking about the mental health crisis and fundraising to help the families left behind after this tragedy. Through these bad times we are proud to be kiwis. Proud to have THE best Prime Minister in the world. Proud that our country will not let this be swept under the rug. We will never forget but we will also never let this happen here again -katie.
