Don’t get me wrong...

This IS the greatest time to be alive...

It’s just not set up for everyone to be lean.
-
We no longer have to expend any energy to get food.
-
Really, we no longer have to expend much energy at all.
-
So of course, now our energy equation(calories in vs calories out) is off balance.
-
It’s not that we’re so messed up as people...
-
It’s just the way the world is now.
-
And I’d much rather fight myself to eat less calories than have to fight to FIND calories.

And I’d much rather intentionally workout to expend energy than have to find ways to conserve energy just to live!

As much as people like to talk about hunter gatherers...

I’m good on that lifestyle lol

We just need to be aware of this and start to program our lives a little differently from society.

Here’s my top 5 ways to improve nutriton: ⁣

1️⃣ Macro priorities- ⁣

if your goal is fat loss: eat your veggies first, protein second, then whatever else is left. Watch how much less you consume by doing this... eating less = calorie deficit = weight loss ⁣

If your goal is building muscle: start with carbs first then protein. ⁣

2️⃣ use smaller plates, bowls, or Tupperware.⁣
⁣
Studies show that we eat what’s in front of us. If provided with unlimited amounts of food... we will eat it. Provided less food, we will eat it and be satisfied. ⁣

I believe everyone should track at least once in their life. This will help truly define how much food you are consuming. If you are new to this then start with tracking your protein. Buy a scale and weight out protein daily. Track it in myfitness pal. ⁣

4️⃣ Fasting- I love fasting as a tool for better health. ⁣
⁣
Fat loss shouldn’t be the main goal but more of a byproduct of fasting. Improve digestion, gut health, and energy. ⁣

5️⃣ Meal prep is king 🤴🏻 ⁣
⁣
I don’t care who you are, if you don’t prep you won’t succeed. It’s one of the things there’s no way around it. I’ve never seen anyone have success from eating out multiple times a day. ⁣

If you don’t like to cook hire someone else to do it for you. ⁣

No matter what calorie deficit you maintain or how much you excercise, if you're NOT consistent, you will not be successful in achieving your goal. Consistency is king in fitness; you need to have the right mindset prior to starting any diet or workout program.

CALORIE DEFICIT: Eating less calories than your body needs is the ONLY way to lose fat! This means that less calories are being consumed relative to the amount of calories your body needs for maintaince of your current body weight.
___________________
ENOUGH PROTEIN: you need enough protein to maintain muscle mass, to recover from workouts, and to keep you full and satiated when you’re dieting.
___________________
LIFT WEIGHTS: 4-5x a week!. Crucial to maintain muscle mass/ build those muscles.

SLEEP: 7-9 hours a night to recover, rest and keep your hunger levels in check. when you don’t sleep enough, your body will be hungrier, you will be more stressed, and your hormones may be more out of whack.

CARDIO: HIIT, LISS, and playing sports are all great ways to get some cardio in!

LOWER BODY WORKOUT

Today is Hump Day 🐫 so no better day then today to make it a leg day. Waking up after doing this workout with some sore hammies 😬 but it’s all for the gains! 💪🏼 8 1/2 Deadlift to Full Deadlift 
10 R Stationary Lunge 
10 L Stationary Lunge 
12 1/2 Hip Thrust to Full Hip Thrust 
8 Goblet Squat 
8 Goblet Squat Pulses 
10 (Low) Lateral Lunges (10 Each Side) 
Complete this exercise doing 3-5 sets per exercise. Basically the 1/2 is like a small pulse before doing the full. One 1/2 and a full is a count of one. This is my first time incorporating 1/2 Deadlifts and Hip Thrust and I’m definitely feeling it and loving it. Let me know if you give this workout a try. ❤️

After going to the doctor's yesterday and being told I have to take it easy due to my wrist, I got so mad. I was so mad because I felt like this is a major set back and I'm going to lose a lot of my progress. Then after sulking for an hour I realized I might no be able to do upper body stuff at the moment there is still other things I can to continue on with achieving my goals. It'll be a little difficult but I won't let this push me back or be the reason I go off the rails.

Since I got my shit together and stopped self sabotaging by sneaking extra food in my day, I’m already down 3lbs in 4 days.... that right there says it all. THINGS ADD UP! If may be healthy foods but it’s still calories, and it affects your deficit.

Be accountable, I’m always learning about myself and my habits, new or old.

A NAMS (National Academy of Metabolic Science) Certified Nutrition Consultant asked a question in our FB group regarding a client who is ectomorphic. She set his macro profile close to 175 g of protein, 500 g of carbs, and 125 g of fat (rounding for easier math). The goal is to gain as much fat-free mass as possible. Pretty dead-on calculations. Protein is approaching 3x the RDA, which is a top ceiling in most research, and the protein will go farther because of all the protein-sparing carbs. Fat is right at 30% of calories, another ceiling in my opinion, for someone maintaining or trying to gain without much body fat. But, that's a lot of food...what food sources would you use? *

My first thought is quality, but sometimes too much quality means too much GI stress. Can you imagine 500 g of carbs from vegetables, oats, and other complex sources? It wouldn't only be potentially uncomfortable, but could cause all kinds of IBD issues. On the fat intake side, you might be tempted to use a lot of healthy EFAs from oils, but that could also lead to GI problems like diarrhea and eventual IBD. You also don't want a lot of saturated fat, especially on a gaining diet - a recipe for heart disease. *

Some simple carbs, and liquid carbs, are often necessary on a high-calorie diet; just make sure there is enough fiber and whole food. Some saturated fat is okay for density, and some EFA/oils are of course okay for better health, but a mid-line has to be struck for health, body comp goals, and GI function. Not everyone can eat like Kori - her breakfast Saturday - who eats like that? *
