The warm up

Is it a time to work on movement deficiencies? Sure. Does it need to take 25 min? No.. Try and get it done in under 10 min.  If you have severe movement deficiencies most of that should be handled during your actual training anyways. Get hot and get it in and get out. If you’re an athlete, your job is on the field. Not in the weight room. Prioritize training time accordingly.

My guys try to get there training done in under 45 min. The guys who need more time usually lack the muscular endurance needed to accomplish it. Or they take to damn long on their rest times.

With challenging rest times and volume accounted for, you can easily condition yourself through out the day while simultaneously working on max strength.

Strength testing your max for any lift isn’t always feasible due to factors such: fear of injury and safety concerns.

There are other methods to predict your 1RM. For example, you can perform an exercise where you lift and achieve failure at 8 reps or less and use that to calculate your theoretical 1RM max. Failing at 8 reps or less means that you are within 20% of your maximal strength/intensity for that specific movement. Input your values (weight used and reps completed) into a 1RM calculator you find on google. .

If your goal is to become stronger you should train your main lifts (e.g. bench press, deadlift, squat, shoulder press, hip thrusts) at 85% or greater of your 1RM for 2-6 sets of 6 repetitions or less depending on where you are in your training and experience.

If I wanted to train to specifically increase my bench press max as much as possible, this is how I would begin training: Starting with 275lbs since I maxed at 315 lbs, for 4-6 sets of 5 repetitions with 3-5 minutes of rest for 4-6 weeks. Then reassess and go from there.

Lastly, this doesn’t mean that the only way to get stronger is by doing what I just described. This is just the specific way to train to increase mainly strength (specificity matters). If your train for hypertrophy, endurance, power...of course you will increase your strength, but just not as much as you think or as quickly because the training is not as intense or specific for developing strength (the maximal force your muscle can exert against an object). .

Doing 20 repetitions of 80 pound chest press will get you very far in terms of building endurance but not do much for your strength. .

Currently traveling through the US and the goal is much more β€˜maintenance’ than anything else. So whenever it’s possible, work up to something that’s somewhat heavy but still moves well has been the approach. I have no idea what weight this is, as the bar says β€˜power’ but I doubt is actually a power bar, and the plates are red but don’t say how much they weighπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I’m going to call this a β€˜jetlagged, chalkless conventional rep pb’ which sounds more impressive than β€˜the weight I lifted when I was tired and found a gym’ πŸ˜‚
