On set today in a beautiful home..loving this #botanical rendering of #HUMULUS LUPULUS...HOPS! (We actually grow #hops along our fence but we’ve never made beer out of them.) To follow up on my last post about calorie expenditure being overestimated, only contributing a small amount to Total Daily Energy Expenditure, you dont NEED to do exercise at all to lose weight, let alone doing hours of cardio.

When FAT LOSS is your goal, it is the difference between the calories you eat & those you expend.
-
Energy is measured in calories & if the calories consumed EXCEED the ones you burn during  daily activity = you gain bodyfat in the long term.
-
If the calories consumed are LOWER than the ones you expend, you will lose fat no matter the type of activity.
-
Consuming 2000 calories + 0 Cardio has the same result as consuming 2500 calories + 500kcal Expended doing Cardio. Both = 2000. You could, hypothetically, eat 2000 calories + 500kcal Expended doing Cardio and lose fat at a quicker rate.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Cardio = Fat loss, because it still depends on how many calories you eat & expend. Energy Balance Is Key & you can't out train your diet.

Obviously there are health & fitness benefits to cardio, but we are focused here on calorie intake & the requirements to lose fat (Losing Fat/weight doesn't always mean "living healthy")

Cardio can be used as a TOOL to increase energy expenditure (Best used to improve health & fitness) & as a result of that increase fat loss. Just as Resistance Training is a TOOL

❌Myth: your metabolism slows down with age, making it nearly impossible to lose weight and get healthy.

✔Fact: the natural aging process of metabolism is only one piece of the puzzle, when in truth you can control most other things that have an impact.

If you are over the age of 30, don't give in to this misconception. Here are the top controllable action items you can implement in your week to combat a lack of results:

1. Manage portion control. If you eat too much, you will gain weight - plain and simple. Fill your stomach with less calories and more volume by choosing veggies, fruits, whole grains, and a mix of plant based and animal protein. Also consider tracking your food so you have a better idea of your total daily consumption.
2. Move your body! 150 minutes a week of vigorous exercise should be the goal, with an element of strength training in your routine.
3. Drink more water. 2 L a day should be the minimum to go for...and know that liquid in your stomach can act as an appetite suppressant, making it easier to achieve tip number 1.
4. Assess your stress and sleep. If you are lacking in those departments, it can be contributing to an undesirable outcome. Proper rest and healthy coping mechanisms will help you progress more effectively.

For years, I would pack my breakfast and lunch (sometimes dinner) and bring it to work. The problem was, I never (not even ONCE) took time the time to enjoy my meals away from my desk. I felt guilty taking a lunch break and wanted to “earn my stripes”.. and thought who has time for a lunch break? I was so stressed I didn’t think I had time and ate in such a stressed state. In fact, I operated in one mode only which was chronically stressed.🤯

Now knowing the science behind what I was doing to my digestion with those seemingly innocent decisions.. I am not surprised I had the issues I did: never energized, constant bloat, brain fog, gas...essentially floating through the day to day accepting that as my normal.!! It’s NOT normal. You deserve to give yourself whatever time you have to put the technology down, take a walk, step away from the desk and enjoy your food. Your work will thank you. You digestion will thank you. Your mental sanity will thank you. You are not too busy to take care of yourself.

Tuesday tea ☕️ ... just like you can’t spot reduce fat, you can’t spot gain either.

Too often I get dm’s or questions about how to gain muscle/weight is certain places and not in others. Reality is, just like you can’t choose when you want to loose weight, you can’t choose where you want to gain it either. In order to put on muscle, you have to be in a caloric surplus and that just mean weight gain in general. Some people will hold that extra “bulking weight” in different places, and that is why all of our bodies are so unique.

Personally the first place I notice my bulk is in my cheeks and my mid section. And when I am in a deficit I can just feel my legs start to go. 100% not the places I would choose for either sinerio, but I learn to accept my body and the goods and bad of each phase of my journey.

Moral of the story: You cant choose where you want to loose and you can’t choose where you want to gain. Accept the whole of each phase of your journey. learn to love your body for its uniqueness, not feeling self conscious about it.

Tuesday tea ☕️ ... just like you can’t spot reduce fat, you can’t spot gain either.

Too often I get dm’s or questions about how to gain muscle/weight is certain places and not in others. Reality is, just like you can’t choose when you want to loose weight, you can’t choose where you want to gain it either. In order to put on muscle, you have to be in a caloric surplus and that just mean weight gain in general. Some people will hold that extra “bulking weight” in different places, and that is why all of our bodies are so unique.

Personally the first place I notice my bulk is in my cheeks and my mid section. And when I am in a deficit I can just feel my legs start to go. 100% not the places I would choose for either sinerio, but I learn to accept my body and the goods and bad of each phase of my journey.

Moral of the story: You cant choose where you want to loose and you can’t choose where you want to gain. Accept the whole of each phase of your journey. learn to love your body for its uniqueness, not feeling self conscious about it.

Lovers of cannabis who purpose it in their life regularly are more physically active than people who never use it or only periodically do.

Can Green Tea Supplements Really Help Burn Fat?

Looking at the theory behind why green tea may help with weight loss the key active ingredients are caffeine and catechins.

Caffeine stimulates the release of noradrenaline. This blocks the breakdown of key enzymes that when active stimulate thermogenesis which is heat production. The overall effect is an increased energy expenditure.

Catechins prevent the breakdown of the circulating noradrenaline which essentially prolongs its energy burning effects. Catechins are also though to play a part in the switch to using fat as a fuel source instead of carbs. This is why we now see green tea extract supplements promoted as fat burners.

Over the next few days I’m going to make a series of posts about the evidence behind these claims and whether the supplement form actually works.

Not everyone is a morning person, which is why today I’m giving you some tips on how to make the mornings more enjoyable. The best way to do this is to get your body moving… if you aren’t ready to hit the gym, morning stretches are just as effective in kickstarting your metabolism and releasing some of those well needed happy hormones. Try this 4 step process for morning stretches...
🚶🏼‍♀️
Step 1: Standing tall, stretch your arms above your head and take a deep breath through your nose. As you drop your arms to your sides, exhale. Repeat.
🚶🏼‍♀️
Step 2: Standing forward fold - dive down to touch your toes or place your fingertips on the ground. If you cant reach, place your hands on your shins. Keep your shoulders back and down and remember to breathe! 🚶🏼‍♀️
Step 3: Start in a lunge position with your left leg forward, lowering your right knee towards the ground. You should feel the stretch in your left hip. Repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Child’s Pose, Downward Dog and Cobra - holding each for 15-30 seconds.

Step 3: Start in a lunge position with your left leg forward, lowering your right knee towards the ground. You should feel the stretch in your left hip. Repeat on the other side.

Yesterday after coaching an extremely challenging class, I heard members tell me they hadn’t eaten all day. (It was 7:00pm) So without food, they were burning over 400-700 calories. While the caloric burn is great, not on the empty stomach.

When your body is lacking calories and nutrients, your metabolism slows down. It goes into fight or flight and instead of burning fat you burn that lean muscle mass! YIKES! Not at all what we want to do. .

Let’s talk Bloating and Gut health 🤚🏼 .
Today is the first time in a week I have woke up and haven’t been severely bloated. Usually when I bloat I look 6 months pregnant, no lie ✖️
Now I can usually pin it down to either dairy or medication consumption however I’ve been good with my diet and am still bloated beyond belief and that is effecting my overall gut health. 
The gut brain connection has been studied thoroughly and is linked to mental health, digestive issues, and other medical problems in the human body.
Bloating is a result of inflammation in the body and can be caused by intolerances to:
- dair🥛 .
- gluten 🥖 .
- medications 💊
- salt 🧂
- artificial sweeteners 🍦
- time of the month 
I’ve been experiencing bloating, digestion issues (TMI), and water retention and to say it hasn’t affected my mental health is an understatement.
