I really try to focus on the food when I do reviews. Once the surroundings are hygienic & comfortable, the substance is the food & the rest is a distraction. But Bellefield's food is not only great, the soothing, sultry personality of the grounds is impossible to ignore. Swipe left for just a sample of the deep ambiance.
Cast iron herb-garlic shrimp & scallop appetizer (1550 +tax)

The shrimp & scallop appetizer was my favourite part of my meal. The sauce was buttery, garlicky, had the consistency & light floral note olive oil is loved for, & was just sweet enough that I suspect it came from not only the scallops, but maybe some reduced white wine. Sopping up that herbaceous sauce with the crisp French bread on the side is something I look forward to doing again. The shrimp & scallops had the telltale melt in your mouth softness of perfectly cooked seafood. Not a rubbery morsel in sight.
I tried one each of the fish, beef & chicken tacos. None was spicy & the chicken & beef were both minced meat that tasted simmered in predominantly smokey & sweet flavors with little sharp heat. In fact all three were noticeably sweet. However, that did not stop them from tasting good. The fish, though my least favourite, got the special treatment it should with a little lime already incorporated into the flakey meat. It was topped with what seems like home made tartar sauce alternative, being mayo with pickles & maybe a little vinegar. Chicken wins because the flavours it shares with the beef just work better with the milder chicken, allowing the bell pepper tomato sauce on top to work with it rather than get lost. Topped with real sour cream & guacamole made fresh from pear (avocado), I didn't feel cheated by either the chicken or the beef despite the homey flavours.
I also got a taste of someone's BBQ ribs. Tender, sticky & full of Umami!
