🇳🇿WAITANGI NZ DAY | Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, marks the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. The children worked in partnership with Nesa, one of our Educators, to create their own Maori twist symbols using the play dough. They manipulated the play dough to create different symbols using their fine motor skills and creative skills. As they created the symbols Nesa explained to the children that the Maori twist symbol is a very popular symbol because of its meaning. The pikorua, as the twist is called in Maori, stands for the bond between two people symbolising friendship, love or blood. The twist symbol also resembles the path of life and eternity.
