This is my product photography spot... seriously the *only* place in my house where the natural light works! And it’s way better in the afternoon than now, right now with morning light it’s bad & it throws colour casts. So you’ll usually find me here late afternoon snapping pics after the kiln is unloaded. The wall was white once & there was a bookshelf I used to photograph on which I liked, but we painted the walls dark blue last year. Now I balance my ceramics against it on my brick moulds, old wooden boxes & whatever I can grab ON top of the piano... reflecting light into shadows. My usual natural linen cloth is at my exhibition, so it’s this pretty one today! .
I actually don’t think the dark blue works well in backgrounds all the time but it’s all I’ve got! (I have the lounge lights on & it shows the tungsten here). Each time I do a shoot I think I need to make some backgrounds... or a mini studio box. I’ve got from full studio photographer to a tiny corner in my home but that’s ok 😆it’s not that I don’t care but balancing life/3 kids/family/house/work... well you know the drill! .
What corners of your home are your go to places for photography. Do you need to chase the light? What are your favourite props? I’ll show compassion full shots of morning & afternoon light later today in my stories.
