Shaowcasing some improvements in my Medicine Ball Slam using functional patterns.

Keeping my feet connected to the ground allowing for better loading of my tissues. Orienting the slam more from the posterior shifting of my pelvis. Still needs a better connected and deeper knee flexion.

Tight quads (thighs) Can be stretched like this 
BUT‼️ the thighs runs over the knee, But it also flex the hips - that are flexed in this position. So in this stretch you only stretch the lower part. 
However tight iliotibial bands might also tighten up your hips and knees - Ill show you a stretch later on for that 🔆

Der große Unterschied: beim zweiten Bild wird hauptsächlich das Nervensystem auf Spannung gebraucht. Das Nervensystem kann man sich vorstellen wie ein großes Netzwerk. Das Zentrum bildet das Gehirn und das Rückenmark. Von dort aus verlaufen die Nerven wie ein Kabelsystem bis in die Finger- und Zehenspitzen. Bei vermehrter Beugung in der Wirbelsäule kommt v.a. das Nervensystem auf Spannung. Das Problem daran: das Nervensystem ist nicht dehnfähig! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA and not posting as much on this account. It’s been hectic with my new travel job in Portland so I haven’t had time to curate content and share with you all.

Truth be told, I haven’t even had much time to exercise nearly as much as I want/need to. Working in a home health setting is no joke which includes long hours in a car driving and then sitting and charting for more hours 🤪 it’s enough to drive a girl mad!

Anyways, finally getting back to my rhythm this week and decided to share something!
.
Here’s a little tip of the day for those who deadlift (and if you don’t deadlift, why??). At the top of the contraction, there may be a tendency to overextend at the top while squeeze the glutes, but this isn’t necessary because what happens is it results in your back extending beyond vertical.
.
It’s more optimal to just stop at the top where you are most vertical (or perpendicular to the ground). The bulk of your hip power derives from the lowering and rising of the barbell anyways so no need to extend further if you think it does any good 😉

Lots of debates on this! I agree with @functionalpatterns that back squatting is certainly not functional or good for #lowerbackpain -
I have been changing the way I squat recently and including more goblet or side weight squats. Back squatting can promote over extension and loads the lower back more than what it likes doing! When training we need to incorporate more functional movements to prevent injury and optimise the #humanbody

🔥 Our spine is incredibly resilient! More times than not, back pain is caused by factors that are outside of the spinal structure itself (false beliefs, feelings, stress etc). Pain is multi-factorial (check out previous posts on this, if you haven’t had the chance to do so already.

🤭 Whenever we feel pain we automatically believe that something is structurally injured. Truth is.. In some cases, this is actually the case, in others (most cases) its not.

👨‍⚕️Find a healthcare provider that will fully evaluate your situation, provide you with relief and then teach you ways to move and live pain free.

🚫 Medical, rehabilitation and fitness providers, stop creating fear in your patients by telling them there is something physically wrong with their bodies. Help them achieve a higher level of function and quality of life, thats what we are here for.

Movement and exercise are very important throughout pregnancy. ☺️ Even in the 3rd trimester, there are exercises that can be done to help with symptomatic back and pelvic pain. Likewise, exercise can help position the baby vertex to prepare for a smooth labor. 🤰🏼 These are a few examples of exercises that can be done, however it is important to contact your physical therapist and consult your midwife, doula, and/or OB regarding prenatal exercise prior to attempting. 🤗

This may come as a shock but it's the truth for the vast vast majority of humans.

In fact we can go further as to say the same for people under 108 years but most of us have spent so much time "Shod" that it takes a lot of time and effort to restore the feet, hips, brain and everything inbetween to be able to tolerate less heels, less cushioning and less support.

Something which we should all be perfectly capable of doing had we not spent our lives in shoes.

With kids however it is so very important for their well-being. The main issue is that the arch of the foot - the structure of the foundation of your whole body and life does not fully form until the ages of 7/8. So before this time the foot needs input, it needs to be shown what it is meant to do so that it develops correctly and naturally.

Reliance on cushioning, heel lifts and artificial support from all sorts of modern footwear dulls or removes the input of how the foot lands, supports and propels the body resulting in an epidemic of flat feet in kids... Which has a massive impact on how the hips, knees and back move ie - painfully! 
In terms of movement in general, cushioned heels encourage heel striking when running which is widely recognised as a good way to be a slow, inefficient and painful runner!

Do you and your kids a favour and dump the expensive complicated cushioned crap and something that allows the foot to be a foot and interact with the ground... Because that's what it's meant to do, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!

👉The classic Y raise is a commonly prescribed movement for lower trap strengthening. However, many people struggle with execution of the movement with a focus on the lower Trap. This isn’t inherently wrong or bad, but if we are trying to focus on the low Trap, we should focus on it!

💥A simple means to help focus on the low Trap is to simplify things and create constraints to limit involvement from other muscles. This progression is a good starting place for most people. Try it out and let me know how it feels!

I now have some neck + spine issues that’s reversible thankfully - if I commit to leading a more active lifestyle. I’ve been going to physio twice a week and yoga as much as possible (4 times this week so far!) and am looking forward to the day when I’m not in chronic pain. I’m not alone in this and am curious to know your stories and struggles in this area, particularly if you’re a photographer. I’m not a qualified yogi or medical practitioner but I’m putting in a lot of effort in understanding what’s needed to fix specific issues related to this type of work we love so much and I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far if there’s a demand! 💜

#Hamstring #Injuries are common, especially in athletes. Although these injuries can be very painful, they usually heal on their own. The hamstring can be pulled, partially torn, or completely torn. The injury can happen at the #musculotendinous junction, within the muscle, or where the tendon connects on the #ischial #tuberosity (avulsion). It’s very important to treat and rehabilitate correctly. The RICE method is pivotal, as well as NSAIDs. Surgery is rarely needed; however, it may be needed for an avulsion to reattach the torn hamstring to the pelvis—esp if the tendon is >2cm from its normal attachment site.
