Johnny Lightning 2000 Ford Mustang, casting No. 235, Modern Muscle 2, release 2, 2007.
Al Pletcher created this casting for the original “Modern Muscle” assortment which debuted in 2001. Almost simultaneously, this casting and others from the same series appeared in the VIP (Pamela Anderson TV show) assortment.
Out of all the cars, this Mustang was special because of the flexibility engineered into the mold. Instead of altering sections of the die-cast body, the Mustang mostly used plastic parts to create its variations.
There are at least two versions of the front and rear bumpers, both plastic, to create the standard Mustang and the Cobra.
Other options available to the design team were hardtop, convertible (top down), and convertible (top up). There were at least two (metal) hoods and the rear spoiler could be deleted if desired.
By the time this green version arrived, collectors had already seen plenty of classic red, black, and silver variations. So I opted for authentic “Electric Green.” Color is my passion, and I added canary-yellow stripes to further differentiate it from any previous versions.
