Squats have been feeling dialed in as of late, and my ability to do heavier and heavier singles for multiple sets has been progressive as well. Next step will be to hit a top single of this squat variant at 500lbs (this upcoming squat session) then switch to front squats and slowly build up until my singles exceed my 1RM and use micro mini reverse bands to build higher and higher weekly tonnage. @lululemonmen @lululemonla Sure Shorts, Metal Vent Tech Long Sleeve #thesweatlife

All 3 top sets of 8 from this week:
◾️335 lbs. high bar squat.
◾️235 lbs. pause bench.
◾️507 lbs. deadlift.

These numbers are not very far from my best sets of 8 for all 3 lifts, so I am happy about how these are moving. The first time moving weight for sets of 8 in several months definitely lends itself to feeling much like cardio, and honestly feels vomit inducing at some points.

Calories are fairly low right now (roughly averaging 2500 a day). There are a multitude of distractions surrounding my personal life in this moment, but my eyes remains on the prize. Don’t lose sight of yourself for other people.

I am ODing on Vit-C/Emergen-C and speaking with the local witch doctor for to contract spirits to ward off sickness at the price of my first born... jokes on her, I ain’t spawning any Mini Mes😈😈😈

Random RichFitTip: Make sure your progress pics are consistent. It’s important to take your pictures at the same time of the day, with the same lighting, with the same pose,  and with the same angle. I took these two pictures minutes apart and you can clearly see a difference. Since I took my first progress pic (2 weeks ago) unflexed, the second picture is a more accurate representation of my progress. Random RichFitTip: Make sure your progress pics are consistent. It’s important to take your pictures at the same time of the day, with the same lighting, with the same pose, and with the same angle. I took these two pictures minutes apart and you can clearly see a difference. Since I took my first progress pic (2 weeks ago) unflexed, the second picture is a more accurate representation of my progress. Today was exactly 2 weeks since surgery. This sling is my ball and chain and is getting super old really fast. 4 more weeks to go with this damn thing 😢. These last few days have been slightly more comfortable, but I hate going to bed because I have to sleep with the sling, my shoukder hurts like a bitch, I can't get comfortable for very long, and thus never really fall into a deep sleep causing me to feel tired all the time, but I'm still getting antsy and would love to lift.

When I went for my follow-up appointment last Wed I found out my right Labrum is torn as well.  Prior to the surgery, I was doing several shoulder rehab exercises for both shoulders and my right shoulder was giving me no problems (besides reaching my arm behind me) and even my left shoulder, the one I had surgery on, was feeling much less painful and more stable. As I have been sitting around and recovering, I have noticed my right shoulder starting to ache a bit more and have pain with certain movements as weakness and atrophy has been setting in. I cant sit around much more waiting for my left side to heal, I have have to attack my right side, because I definitely want to avoid surgery. Building strength helps improve joint stability, mobility and function, so I'm going to do whatever it takes to get my shoulders good as new

Here are the rehab exercises I did today plus 1 exercise for tri's and bi's. For everything I did 3 sets 15-20 reps. The weight wasn't as important as the quality of the contraction. It's baby steps for now since my left shoulder is still so sensitive.

I always have a PR in me. Always. And so do you. It’s just a matter of how bad you want it in this moment, and is it worth it, in this moment. It comes down to ‘are you willing to dig that deep and pull that MFer out’. And it was. So I did. 455x12 RDL’s with plenty left in the tank. Did a few sets of 8 first at 455, and followed with barbell rows from the low blocks at 315 and a solid belt pull 🙌🏻. Did a ton more back and biceps work after. •

So the last 5-6 months of my life has been both very challenging and very amazing. With the right perspective it’s nearly impossible to separate the two, as one nearly always leads to the other. That is, if you decide to take the lesson, choose your meaning, and level up from it. •

Lessons keep presenting themselves until you’ve learned what needs to be learned. The reoccurring “theme” has been one of attachment and letting go. The letting go of old stories, beliefs and behaviors. Letting go of ideas about who I am, and who I was going to be. Letting go of things I thought were mine. Letting go of people, and relationships, I thought would be much more permanent. •
•
There’s a poem by Hafiz that starts with, “The place where you are right now, God circled on a map for you”. This isn’t about God or personal beliefs. It’s about the necessity of all things. Everything you’ve been through has gotten you to where you are right now, and is preparing you for what’s to come. There are no mistakes, with the right mindset. •

Let go with grace. You can’t force things or people. If you could, would you really be happy with that anyway? Fuck no. So jump headfirst into the uncertainty of letting go, and the massive belief and trust in yourself will be your parachute. Accepting the call to adventure; accepting there might be something better; accepting that just because you can’t see it now, doesn’t mean it isn’t there, is the bridge from who you are now, to the person you want to be. •

Life is lived in between your imagination and your courage...and I’m here for it.

MRI came back. Shoulder is indeed  borked. We'll fix it. Working around that and lower body issues, and finding great focus - which chains + cambered bar certainly demand. Both elements add instability and challenge your posture.

When I first thought about making this post, I thought I was going to give some basic nutrition advice on how to set up a diet for beginners, but after thinking it over, I’m just going to give some of the basic nutritional habits and principles (over the next couple posts) that I’ve used to gain weight (for muscle building) and lean down.

 Understanding that caloric balance is the number 1 factor when it comes to weight loss, gain, or maintenance. Achieving a caloric deficit (burning more calories than you consume) is the only thing that makes you lose weight and a caloric surplus makes you gain. IF YOU AREN’T LOSING WEIGHT, YOU ARE NOT IN A CALORIC DEFICIT. Here is one thing I’ve done to achieve a caloric deficit while making the diet more enjoyable.

80% of my meals look exactly the same. This allows for pretty consistent of weigh-ins, but the number 1 reason I do this is because I get “decision fatigue” really fast. When I don’t have a consistent meal plan then I get more food focused always thinking about what I’m going to have at my next meal, which allows feelings of hunger to creep in. I’m also a person that can literally eat the same foods everyday for MONTHS on end with no problem, but crazy enough I always genuinely enjoy my food. If I do get sick of something then I’ll switch it out for something else.
