For some reason I thought this was due in April! 😳Thankfully I had the design and app ready to go, just had to send it in before the deadline! Thank you @United for such a fun side project. #herarthere

Missing my sweet Bonks and Hera. Thankful they each found a place in my Earthly Delights series! (And I can’t wait to adopt more babies soon!) #mj_earthlydelights #mantismom

I know I’m over sharing but I stuck my head in a tree full of allergies for these shots so you better enjoy them, Instagram algorithm be damned! πŸ˜… #seattleppatch #mytruelove

My garden is waking up and my heart is ready for it. My favorite place to be is this patch of earth in the center of the city.

I'm 90% done with making the last collage I'll be showing at @core.gallery.seattle! This cutie was the last thing I added; I wish I had found it like this, but it's genuinely a three leaf with the fourth photoshopped on. (Some bug did leave me that perfect heart to photograph though!) If there were ever an analogy of my career, it would be me sitting down to make my own lucky four leaf clover. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
I've been thinking a lot about how much support I have had in the last several months. My friend Jessica from @roomtocraft came over this week to help make some of the mechanics for the show, and we started a conversation about how I have a hard time accepting the attention of my work and why.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
One of my goals is to dismantle the myth that the art world often is. I want it to be more open, and I want us all to find a place in it. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
So I have gotten in the habit of being upfront about the help I have had in my career because I think it's important to do so. However, Jessica kindly pointed out (she yelled at meπŸ˜‚) that it doesn't matter how much help I've had if I wasn't working hard to build something worth helping. She also pointed out that the language I was using was belittling my efforts. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
And that's not fair to myself, or anyone who cares about what I'm doing. #gutcheck
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
The truth is, you don't get to the next level without receiving help to do it. That goes for everyone in whatever they are trying to do. But it also matters what you do yourself, and I personally make some damn good looking flower ghosts if I do say so myself! β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
I'm on the precipice of something, I've been feeling that way for a while now, a shift if coming and I'm ready to become uncomfortable in a new way. And wherever my weirdo flower art takes me, I'm not going to apologize for any help I got along the way, and I intend on paying forward as much as I can. #UnapologeticallyAmbitious β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
It’s always going to take some trial and error; I'd say wish me luck, but I already made some myself. ;) // #mj_earthlydelights

Identification request! I photographed these little things a couple years ago. I think they came from a perennial cutting garden I was allowed to scavenge because it was being removed to make room for another dumb box property in Seattle. πŸ™„
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” They have been accidentally mislabeled for years, randomly placed in my peony catalogue of images. Now I have them labeled as β€œcute silly berries” but if you know the name - please let me know! Ty! //#mj_earthlydelights

Happy International Women’s Day! I’v long been a fan of @artgirlrising and decided (with permission) to make myself a cute little knockoff with Seattle women artists. (Of course I forgot to get a good photo.😳) β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” @mya_kerner_art show is at @linda_hodges_gallery.
@sarahlavinart and @kateharkinsstudio both have solos at @core.gallery.seattle.
@tazarat and @mhurstfrye.photo (and me!) has our group show β€œFlourish” via @seaofficeofarts that has been rescheduled to summer of 2020! (A fun birthday opening for me!) β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” All of these women would gladly sell you thoughtful, beautiful art. As much as it’s important to know of five women artists, it’s also a pretty good idea to invest in them. :)

The first time I ever walked into a proper art school was just a few years ago; when I was invited to speak a bit about my work to a group of educators and students. When I finished I was hounded by thoughtful questions in the hallway and few of these students still stay in contact.❀️ β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” My heart hurts for those affected by the sudden closing of Seattle’s @art_institutes. But trust me; you will be ok. Maybe even better for it. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” When my sweetheart grandfather passed my old boss pulled me aside and gave me some advice I still think about, β€œWith each hardship you can use it to get a bit more clarity and use it as a foothold.” β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” So I hope tomorrow you burn with rage, allow yourself to cry a bit or even zone it out entirely. And then pick yourself up and put that energy into the work. Show the world what you got and casually flip off anyone who tried to stop you. It might not feel like it but the momentum and support is still pushing you. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” (And if you need guidance you can always reach out to me. I’m a idiot artschool dropout but I’m forever yours. Xoxo.)

hi. πŸ‘‹πŸ» I'm that overachieving weirdo art lady in your feed. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” I'm making my invites to β€œEarthly Delights” with an ephemeral little piece of art. That way, even if you can’t make it, a small bit of the world in my brain can reach you.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” I don't care if you are the type that can buy my art or not. If you want one, you'll get one. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” So speak now or forever hold your peace. Send me a pm with an address. I photographed these pretty things a year or so ago. (Thanks to my friend Donna, who lets me shop from her garden!) β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”My plan was to photograph bleeding hearts specifically for the large collage I’m finishing up now. But now I’m not sure I should use them. πŸ˜… I can’t grow them in my garden (too sunny) and I have never seen them available in any of my local florist connections. I’v been saving them for so long they feel too precious, and like maybe I should use them in something smaller to show them off more? Gah. // #mj_earthlydelights ❀️
