The 1️⃣ first principle in the Chinese Weightlifting System is “Close”. However what does it mean when this principle is applied to the sport of Olympic weightlifting? Observe this athlete as she demonstrates a basic snatch pull from the floor. Notice how there is little to no gap between the barbell and her body. This may seem trivial, however as the mass of the barbell increases the balance of the athlete will inherently shift forward (or worse shift backwards due to over-compensation), the end result is the potential for increasing the distance between the barbell and the lifter. As the barbell pulls away from the athlete the trajectory and pulling mechanics will change. Making it more difficult to connect with the bar. Many athletes are taught to rely on their latissimus to pull the bar close. This is not incorrect, it is just not a complete answer to stabilizing one’s pull. Chinese athletes are taught to use there legs as the primary driving force, versus their backs. This can also be seen here as the athlete’s chest is “open” when over the bar with the knees pushed outward. The underlying reason for this shift in technique is that from a force production and strength perspective we know that the quadriceps and the gluteus are some of the largest muscles in the human body. That being said, by relying on one’s legs as the primary mechanism for stabilization , we can ensure that position over the barbell is being maintained at all levels of intensity. ⁣

Apparently I gotta piece ah’ Polish sausage lodged in da lining ah’ my heart.” 475 plus green bands, orange bands, and 110 in chains to a low box. So yesterday was my 2nd USPA meet. I felt great leading up to the meet and felt like I had a great prep. But to my surprise I ended up bombing out on squat. I was suppose to open at 530lbs but it just wasn't happening. I just did that same weight the week before. Even though the rest of my day didn't count I still continued on. I ended up with a PR on bench at 330lbs. I ended up struggling with 540 for my finally deadlift which was suppose to be my opener but after that day I had we decided to lower my opener and just worked back up to 540. I know it happens but just very disappointing because I felt great coming in. Now it's time to get back to the drawing board, work harder and execute at the next meet.

Thank you for everyone that came out to support me. But the biggest thank you has to go out to @uspasouthcarolina for putting together a great meet and @uflexfitness and @uriasjeremy for opening his gym to everyone.

Thank you @sethdeese_fitness for programming and being there to pull me out of my slump during the meet. We will get back to work ASAP.
