MY ViPASSANA BLESSONS Pt 2
Dhamma teaches us to accept the bitter truth of suffering, but it also shows the way out of suffering.
Suffering was such an interesting word to hear. “Suffering?” I’d ask myself. “What do they mean by that?” And the other word that caught my attention was MISERY.
We all encounter suffering and misery. Life starts with crying; birth is a great suffering. Death is a great suffering. In between them we are bound to encounter sufferings of sickness and old age. We encounter things we don’t like, or we are separated from things we do like. Unwanted things happen, wanted things don’t happen. This is suffering and misery.
Vipassana is about eradicating the cause of suffering. How we do this is by LEARNING TO OBSERVE WITHOUT REACTION.
Sounds easy, right?
When you are told to “observe ones breath” in through the nostrils, out through the nostrils and pay no mind to anything else, you think, “yeah I totes gots this!” but then, the nose would itch, pins and needles would set in, if I didn’t feel drowsy I felt caged in wanting to punch my way out!! Have you ever done this even for just a few hours at a time. Exercise complete stillness?
First 3-6 days I was kicking, punching and screaming inside!!! I learned that any sensation that arises is much like the impermanence of nature. When left alone, it rises and then it passes away.
Doing Vipassana has helped me ACT instead of REact when faced with a difficult situation. I now observe my body sensations and just give it time before doing anything.
Unpleasant thoughts of the mind create unpleasant sensations in the body.
With the work that I do I can see how this practice can be done through movement and Release with Awareness.
Being aware of the body sensations has also help with decision making and seeking the truth.
I learned to REMAIN EQUANIMOUS, keeping a balanced mind, IN THE FACE OF ANY SENSATION.
This keeps me grounded and calm when the tornado of other people’s energy hits.
I know I said I was going to share about the enemies but his came out instead 😂 I will the enemies in another post.
Can you see how REACTING instead of ACTING can cause greater sufferinging?
