#RAWloveproject DAY 6: I love my colleagues.
I spend most of my working life in 2 schools per day, as a solo practitioner, talking to some teachers and staff and working with the young people. Once I week I have time in the office with fellow solo therapists, to catch up, check in and share some ideas/inspiration/coffee. Too often that time is taken up with printing/meetings/finishing off bits of work/group supervision (a super valuable and essential thing, alongside my personal clinical supervision).
But today I was able to spend time with 2 colleagues, thinking of work we can deliver in schools, what is our role/remit, how can we be the most effective and what messages/training/education are most pertinent to our particular schools. We also just chatted and caught up.
We shared ideas and resources but perhaps more importantly we empathised. I have been in the role 6months but I know these ladies have my back, get what it’s like to do this job, and will encourage me in it. I can say that for all my team, which is a pretty big deal.
Interestingly, we all work differently, with different trainings and approaches, challenges and focuses, but with shared experiences. We disagree but respect each other. I was reminded today how valuable time together is, and overwhelmed with gratitude for the wonderful colleagues that inspire, challenge and encourage me. I know I’m gonna be a way better therapist because of this job and them. I need to hold onto that when it gets tough and not be afraid to ask for help or seem inexperienced/ineffective. We’re all still learning and we need each other.
