Winter bulk physique update: up to 188.6 lbs as of this morning. Here are my thoughts on my current situation:
1️⃣Am I happy with this level of body fat?
Personally, I’m not. The soft look that I’m rocking right now definitely isn’t my favorite and I would really like to lean down a bit for aesthetic reasons.
2️⃣Am I happy with my gym performance at this body weight?
Absolutely. Carrying around a little extra weight typically means a couple of things from a performance standpoint. First, you have plenty of calories from food to fuel performance improvements in the gym. Performance improvements with ample protein and recovery leads to gains. Second, you have better leverages across a variety of lifts. Better leverages translate to more weight lifted and most of the time, more gains. In the last week, I’ve hit all-time volume PRs on my squat, bench, deadlift and more. Signs of increased strength and muscle mass.
3️⃣Will I be cutting soon?
I want to see where I’m at when I finish my current mesocycle of training. If weights are still steadily progressing, I’ll be tempted to go for broke and keep gaining while I have good momentum. Alternatively, I may do an aggressive 4 week mini-cut to satisfy my desire to be leaner, even if it’s only 6 or 8 lbs and then resume gaining. It ultimately depends on how I’m feeling in 4 weeks. We’ll see 🤷🏻♂️
