Happy Women’s Day!🎈
If you were wondering who’s behind all the naked-tree-framed pictures and excruciatingly long posts, ta-da!
I’m Jennifer, a 20-something location-independent translator from Lebanon who’s always cold and who always, unfailingly, has one or more strands of hair doing their own thing in the wind.
My love affair with Europe started when I was doing my masters in Barcelona a couple of years ago, and ever since, I haven’t been able to stop hopping on one plane after the other bound for the Old Continent.
So far, I’ve traveled in groups, in pairs, and solo, and found solo travel to be my favorite.
Whenever I tell someone I am traveling alone, the answer is almost always: “alone🤨?” Regardless of where we come from, I think we were all brought up with the idea that there are certain things a woman can’t do. I happen to come from a culture that believes there are a lot of things a woman can’t do, including being independent enough to travel alone.
On this women’s day, though, I urge every woman, but especially those coming from a patriarchal society, to travel alone at least once in her life.
I can’t guarantee you’ll like it. Maybe you’ll hate it and book a ticket back home. It may just not be your thing.
But give it a shot. Embrace your own company. Become your own best friend for a few days. Do all the things you’d normally do with your best friend, but alone: take yourself out for ice cream, discover new places, chat up handsome strangers, dance in your hotel room, try the best pizza in town, take a walk, go out for coffee.
Enjoy every second you spend with yourself. Although sometimes it might get lonely or boring, I promise it's life-changing.
