I love Mark Hyman, the functional medicine doctor. He's not #keto ...in fact he considers himself a paleo-vegan.
What Hyman brings to the table is his belief in the healing power of food and community.
The #ketodiet can be undertaken in many forms, just as you can be an unhealthy vegan (which I was for 2 years!). When people challenge the healthiness of the #ketolifestyle I have to remind them that it is primarily a whole foods diet. If left on an island alone, we would have to revert back to a keto diet to stay alive.
My wife and I try to minimize our intake of processed foods. We are mainly healthy keto.
Highly unprocessed fats like beef tallow, unrefined coconut oil, and cold pressed olive oil are natural. This is the stuff we have been eating for many millennium.
Fats like vegetable and canola oils are highly processed. They are man made with chemicals that I can't spell or pronounce.
On the cusp of this Sabbath, I would like to propose the revolutionary idea that we should eat what G*d made, not what man made. And G*d made saturated fats.
