Great South West Walk - DAY 6
17km (Fitzroy to Moleside)
My parents did the 6hr drive to come to visit me! I’ve been starved of human contact and if they hadn’t rocked up, I also would have literally starved as they had my resupply box of food. I met them on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere... where my Dad and I quickly realize that we’re identically dressed. 👌Not embarrassing at all. 😳
We walk together for a couple of hours, before they turn around to head back to the car.
Alone again for the afternoon, I’m cruising along on a narrow trail lined with overgrown bracken. It’s a snakey kind of hot day so my eyes are scanning the trail in front of me. Suddenly there’s an urgent, loud scraping against dry leaves. The stick I’m about to stand on starts writhing and moving across the trail. I let out a guttural groan-scream and hop on one foot, trying to regain my balance and retract my step. The large tiger snake has now disappeared in to the ferns beside the trail.
A few tense hours and a few reptilian encounters later, Mum and Dad picked me up and drove me to their campsite for beer, a shower and fish and chips at the Nelson pub. What absolute legends. ❤️
